Watch Brand Hierarchy

I am going to be getting myself watch to wear for my wedding next year and I have a question on watch brands. I don't want to spend much over $500, but i don't want something low end.

I know that $500 isn't going to get me into a high end Omega or Breightling. But I would like something a little higher end than my titanium Seiko that I wear as my everyday watch.

What would you suggest?

I'd suggest you keep the $500.

Self esteem coach.

What is that all about. I have a very high opinion of myself. For that reason, i dont like to buy crap. A watch is something I plan on keeping a long time. Whatever.

If you want to wear a watch, just wear something that looks nice without regard to maker. If you really want a good recommendation, go to http://www.timezone.com and they'll be glad to give you good suggestions for watches.

I happen to have a titanium seiko too and it's great.

Help me out here. Every $500 watch is going to keep very accurate time and every brand will have a wide variety of styles.

So what is left to use as criteria for choosing one besides than picking one you like?

I agree about TZ. Not only are they extremely helpful, you can find some decent watches in the sales corner as well.

You might also consider buying vintage. That might not be the kind of look you're after, but you can get a 40s Omega for just a few hundred more than your budget. You can find some with a refinished dial and you'll have a classic look.

How about you go watch shopping and buy what you like instead of what other people think is the best. Having a Rolex wont make your mother love you.

But will it make your mother love me? That's the question!

I am a big fan of the Citizen Eco-Drive. It is a nice watch, but also an everyday watch. I have a Tag to go with those days I wear suits.

I would recommend a nice Invicta watch. You can get ones for about $100 that are really good quality and have the look/weight of way more expensive watches. Here's a link from Amazon:

Go to PMWF (Poor Man's Watch Forum) and look around. They are for watches $1000 and less, unlike Timezone which typically deals in the multi-thousands.

Here's a voted list of some of the best bangs for the buck. Text

OP already has Seiko, and he specified wear during wedding so out of the Top 20 List, I would have to go with Tissot Seastar 1000.

After seeing another watch thread a few weeks back I sugested an orange watch. I poked around and actually bought this watch. I think it could be used as a dress up watch,no? I wanted a waqtch that was a bit different than the run of the mill stuff out there.

Peace

I think his point is that a nie watch isn't going to make or break your wedding day; while the mentality that you need a spendy watch to have a decent wedding will.

I would have to agree. But, if you do want a nice watch, then more power to ya.

i totally agree. i have a 2006 Rolex 2tone submariner now. If I had 400-500 to spend, I would buy a vintage omega constellation or seamaster.. but I like the 60s versions better.

Thanks for the help.

I know what some people say about buying brands or whatever, but when it comes to watches it is really the only jewelry a man wears, so I think that buying quality is a good thing. I want something I can pass on to my son (if/when I have one) for a big occasion (like his wedding).

I've seen some restored Omega Seamaster watches, but they say the "crystal" is now "new plastic crystal". I wouldnt immediatly assume plastic is good. Any comments on a plastic "crystal"?

Have you considered used watched? For $500 you can get Sinn (if you're lucky), Auguste Reymond, Epos, Fortis, Hamilton ...
