My guess is they will reach close to $2.5 million. Cannot wait to see what Brian delivers.

I don't know seems to be slowing way down, but I guess there's still a long way to go.

Looks like they might have shot their forward momentum talking about "social" features.

Stuck at $1.6 million, but if it picks up again:

At $2.1 million, Obsidian is on board (Tim Cain and Chris Avellone) !!!!

Should be cake. Money seems to poor in at the end of the KickStarter when all those on the fence have to make a final decision. Of course this announcement could easily trigger enough contributors to meet the goal sooner rather than later anyway.

Already over $2 million, it looks like Chris Avellone and possibly Tim Cain will be helping out...

Update #8 - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts/202023

"I would like to give a little visibility on what we would expect to add to the game if we hit $2.5 million and $3.0 million. And do keep in mind that ALL money raised goes into development.

Scope and scale is the number one request, and it is what we are focusing our monies on primarily. So at 2.5 million dollars we would bring in another couple of designers to help create more areas. This will not only increase the overall size and depth of the world, but it translates to more story lines and more player options as well. At this funding level we would also bring more level scripters in to allow us to get levels in faster. When we get levels in faster it allows more iteration time to really hone things in. I believe that iteration time is the single most important factor towards shipping a polished and deep game."

I think I sent them $30 towards the effort. Didn't seem like a bad idea. I get probably a large, open-world game for the money, or if it doesn't pan out probably a small indie-size game.

In for $50.... "Full large boxed copy of Wasteland 2, complete with worn cloth game map and old school instruction book."

Hopefully the instruction book will be spiral bound, like a boss!

Thanks but no thanks. I wish them luck but I've been snookered far too many times to give a game developer money before any demo or even any real info.

What other fan funded games did you donate which turned out to be vapourware?

I would have went in for 55 if the option was available : ( when I did it. Don't want to lower my funding now though.

If you're lucky, it will come in the "large box" filled with 3.5" discs. (Box: Volume 1 of 20)

Man..who the heck has $5k and $10k just sitting around to invest?

Glad to see this project getting more funding than it needs. Hopefully these kickstarter projects will mean better games targeted FOR the PC instead of a console port. :)

Um, how could you have not finished the game? boggles the mind.

Same reason I never finished Fallout or Fallout 2, or the 100's of other games. LOL. Either, got stuck and moved to something else and lost track or got bored. I remember liking that game though. Short game attention span. I don't recall having that issue back when I was a kid. Renting games forced me to finish them.

Um, how could you have not finished the game? boggles the mind.

I've skipped the last boss fight slog on a bunch of games.

For shooters it's often the cliche of circle-strafe for 20+ minutes while killing the 3+ forms of the boss, without enough ammo and with one-shot kills if you don't dodge or interrupt properly. That becomes work instead of fun.

For RPGs it's the same except with annoyances like being immune to all of your spellcaster attacks, or needing to destroy eleven pillars in just the right order, or finding out that you needed to grind 10 more levels to have any chance.

I think I did finish the final fight (which had some kind of sequence puzzle) in WL but it's been so many years I'm not sure.

It's at $2.3 million. If they reach $2.5 in the last 5 days we get more content:

Latest update:
- Wasteland backer t-shirt at $150 level (probably too rich for my blood, but tempting)
- party-based game with 4 characters you create and up to 3 extra NPCs in the party
- Obsidian staff will help with some quest tools and story creation, but the main game coding will be done by InXile:

(scroll down to update #8)

In addition, we will add more NPC portraits and equipment artwork as per what the fans have requested in the forums. We would also increase the music budget to allow Mark Morgan to layer in even more atmosphere. The bottom line is that this kind of budget ensures that Wasteland 2 is BIGGER than Wasteland 1. "

Why?

Many of us rarely finish games, under 10%.

Not sure where your statistics are coming from but you should check your sources. I remember reading something along those lines, but that was in reference to gamers today, not 10 years ago. And it was a general statement about gaming as a whole, which included quite a lot of flash and Social networking games. RPGs and other similar games probably have a much higher percent completion rate.

Until and unless you have something specific to show, i stand by my initial statement. Besides which, it's Wasteland!

Now this I understand. Still I would recommend that Wasteland was not like that at all.

Besides, "Finish" can (and probably should) mean getting to the final battle. Even if you didn't kill the last boss, you would have gotten a full game's worth from the experience (IMHO).

I have played BG1 probably a dozen times or (a lot) more. That last battle against Saravok is a real beast. I think I beat him once, yet I still consider each play through "Complete" if I make it to that battle. Is that just me?

To clarify, I'm saying I finish under 10% of games, not that under 10% of gamers do.

Just checked my stats - yup, that's correct.

I've been not finishing games 10 years ago as well.

It's not surprising to me someone didn't finish Wasteland like it was to you.

I played it well after it was out. (I think I picked it up well after Fallout 2 came out) so graphically it was in the Gobliins range. I admit older VGA games are very hard for me to wrap my eyes around ever since I got used to SVGA. I recently tried Ultima 7 again and just couldn't do it. I couldn't make sense of what I was seeing.

Regardless, I start many games but I rarely finish games since I learned about girls. Priorities and such.

I fail to see how internet porn is that much more of a priority than video games.
