Simple answer to the OP - USC dropped farther than they realistically should have after the UW loss. A bunch of other teams lost too, so USC moved back up some.

I have not been impressed with many teams in the top 25 lately. Im just glad that there are more upsets in recent years than in past because I was tired of a ranked team always blowing out someone lower than them.

This is why we need a fucking playoff system in college football

Yeh.. all these bowl games a ridiculous as well. The number 3 in the SEC west play the number 5 in the ACC coastal for the trojan condom bowl.

If your school sucks at football... then you stay home.

college football is decided by votes

voters love usc and the big 10

its a corrupt system, but as long as the best teams are being decided by judges and not a divisional + playoff arrangement theres nothing to be done

college football is fucking retarded. that should be reason enough
Only 1A, everyone else is smart enough to have a playoff.
I think there will still be bitching even with a playoff system.

probably more

Probably less!

You really cant dispute a playoff system. It works in EVERY other sport for a reason.

Looking @ the 2007 season and the number of upsets we saw, a playoff system would screw things up more. The current system works just fine. The only problem is that it overlooks some teams sometimes. So unless you're USC 2003, Auburn 2004, and Utah in '08, I don't see what difference it really makes.

You still have a regular season, and you play till the end where you have a playoffs instead of the current bowl games. That way when Oregon gets screwed and gets sent to the Holiday Bowl, they can complain less because technically in a playoffs series they can somehow still become the champion. So WTF is the point? You can have a season of upsets still in 2007, and the wrong teams can get in your playoffs system of 8 teams or 16 teams or whatever right? You could have a Oregon collapse in 2007 and while that team is still a top team, it's no longer in the playoffs.

The current system has its flaws. It's a different way of looking at a winner, but it's still a stamina test no matter what... just like any playoffs system tests a team's ability to make it to the top.

In the end who cares if you made it to #3 or #4 or #5 or whatever? We only care about #1. I suppose everyone's just bitter that after a season of upsets they are locked into a crappier bowl and not the BCS championship bowl. You had your chance during the season. What makes you think a playoffs system will make you come out #1 all of a sudden? I guess the concept of having the ability to still come out on top is nice. A playoffs system is just a chance at #1 again.... unless you remove the entire ranking system as it stands. But what fun would college football be without weekly rankings? You would play it like football and shoot for a division record? This just means that SEC will only care about SEC, and will bitch more when a Big 10 or Pac-10 team gets the same opportunity but is supposedly "overrated."

"Upsets" are the reason that we need a playoff system. I put upsets in quotes, because it's often a highly ranked team from an esteemed program and conference that gets beaten by a lower-ranked team from a less-esteemed program and conference that happens to play a better football game than the higher-ranked team. The win is what matters, not what some coaches and computer programs say about where a team should be ranked. If you look at pro sports, it's often the same way. We often wind up having a Superbowl with teams that weren't "supposed" to be there, but they earned it and should have a shot at being the national champions. A team like Boise State should have that same shot, but they never will because of the BCS system.

I agree--IMO, sports in general shouldn't ultimately be about who's played the best the entire year, when averaged across said year. Rather, sports are about putting a handful of the best teams together, and then seeing which one comes out on top "when it counts." This is why playoffs are great.

the primary complaint being "we're not making enough money" or "it's not fair that school made a gagillion dollars ours only made half a gagillion"

i think UNL should be higher, they played VT close

true.. especially since VT crushed #9 Miami

in that case Nebraska should be ranked lower

Miami = overrated

Miami is not overrated. They have lots of young talent and were beaten by a good VT team with experience. I'm not a Miami fan by any means, but they are going to be very good the next two years.

very good?? how so...they won`t be a top 10 team...

Randy Shannon came in and recruited his ass off. He's a very good coach and now he has the talent to make some noise. They are still young, and it showed on the road against a good Virginia Tech team. But, they were very impressive opening the season at Florida State and in beating a top 15 Georgia Tech team. They still have the athletic talent and coaching to beat just about any team around on any given Saturday. They will be a top 5 team within the next two years.

Just because they aren't in the top ten doesn't mean they aren't good. You don't have to be a top ten team to be able to play ball.

I don't say I told you so very often, but......

Miami over #8 Oklahoma tonight. The Canes have played 4 straight weeks against a top 20 team and stand at 3-1. They have tons of young talent at the skill positions, and should be contending for the title in 2010 and 2011. Calling Miami overrated is like calling Obama a Republican.
