Hey everyone,

I'm going to Washington DC for a week in early June with my dad. Staying near McPherson Square in the NW district. Just wanted to get an idea of what you guys consider must-sees and must-avoids in DC!

I am definitely going on a tour of the Capitol Building and Washington Monument, and have booked tickets online accordingly. Apparently for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, tickets must be obtained the morning-of. As far as I know, nothing else major requires tickets to enter?

I'm sad I can't take a tour of the White House or the FBI building, as they no longer seem to be available.

In addition to what you have already planned...

A walk along the entire Mall, seeing the various monuments (Washington, WWII, Vietnam, Lincoln, Jefferson, Korea, etc.)
A Smithsonian Museum or two: http://www.si.edu/museums/ (Portrait Museum)
Kennedy Center Performance: http://www.kennedy-center.org/
930 Club Performance for some night life: http://www.930.com/
Walk from the Lincoln along the Potomac to Georgetown
Walk through Georgetown (via the Foggy Bottom / Orange Line Metro)
Walk through Adam's Morgan (via the Woodley Park / Red Line Metro)
A bus / Segway / bike tour (many options for this)
Visit to the National Cathedral (via the Woodley Park / Red Line Metro or bus tour)
Visit to Great Falls Park (requires a car)
Visit the Udvar Hazy Annex of the Air & Space Museum (requires a car)
Visit to the Library of Congress
Walk down Massachusetts Ave / Embassy Row
Visit to the Chinatown area
Visit to the Dupont Circle / Adam's Morgan area (mentioned above)
Visit to the Eastern Market area on a Saturday morning
Visit Mount Vernon
Visit Old Town Alexandria / King Street
Arlington National Cemetary / Tomb of the Unknowns (should be high on your list)

That should keep you busy.

Edit: Just avoid the SE section of DC on the other side of the Anacostia river.
