The National Mall, Spy Museum (cost money), Holocaust Museum (mostly free), the Capitol building, Arlington Cemetery (changing of the guard, JFK), Lincoln/Jefferson/Vietnam/WWII Memorials....

<------------DC native (now living in NH)

How many days will you be in town? That will help me narrow things down.

Edit: I know you said "next wednesday" but wasn't sure if you meant that you are only in town that one day.
9/29 to 10/3 but the first and last will have 8 hours of driving in them.

Just go to the next stop on the red line and it's a short walk downhill instead :D
This. Go up to Cleveland Park stop - short walk downhill to the zoo. When you're ready to leave, head the same way - short walk downhill to Woodley Park stop.

Also, the Udvar-Hazy version of the air and space museum is supposed to be pretty kick-ass, but it's all the way out near Dulles.

If your kid really likes planes, you should also go see the Udvar-Hazy center (its an extension of the Air & Space museum)...if you have wheels, cuz I dont think public transport makes it out there.

SR-71 + Shuttle + Concorde + Enola Gay = Awesome (It is "Free", however you pay to park :( ). If you wanna go for a quick spin though, show up after 4:30-4:45 in the evening & you can do the speedy tour before it closes at 5:30 (they stop charging for parking after 4:30, not sure if this has changed).

edit: beaten by kstu :'(

if it's a nice day you could rent a twin kayak in georgetown and paddle around the monuments for a while. it's about 45 bucks for 2 people for an hour iirc

also if you like frozen yogurt go to Mr. Yogato, it kicks ass!

The Nats are home on the 29th against the Phils - great ball park, short walk from the Navy Yard stop on the green line.

Can you just but tickets at the park right before the game?

Thank you all for all the suggestions.

Hey there,

I used to live in Washington, D.C. I would make sure to hit the spy museum with a 9 year old. It could be exciting.

Otherwise there is a ton of fine dining in that city I could point you to.

The National Zoo is great, though it is a bit of a walk from the metro station. How do you plan on getting around? All-day Metro pass is what we do when we go..it's like 7 or 8 bucks(i think) and makes things much easier.

I'm pretty sure there is an entrance within a block or 2 of the Woodley Park station.

So what you guys are really saying is, there isn't shit to do in DC.
stfu noob, the guy asked for things to do with his 9 year old kid, so the answers are tailored to that.

if it were you who asked instead, id prob tell you to take your dog for a walk in adams morgan.
