A few days ago we helped one of the wife's friends move to a new (to her) rental home. Prior to that, we (well, the wife) had been scouring the local buy/sell/trade section on facebook for a washer/dryer. Upon finding one, the seller said 'you can have the washer for free. It filled up and never drained'.

"OK" I thought to myself. I solved the drainage problem (either dislodged drain pipe or disconnected hose) and it worked fine for the time that I "tested" it - which consisted of me dragging it to the edge of the garage (been raining for 2 weeks straight), hooking the drain hose on a ladder rung with a bungee cord, and sitting out there with a beer watching it. LOL - talk about redneck. It would've only been better if it had been an old toilet I was sitting on monitoring the washer......

Anyhow, forward to 'moving day'. We put the washer in her truck (box truck, fully enclosed), and moved it into her new place. I started it up the next day and listened/watched for leaks and such.

Later on, satisfied that it was 'leak free', she put in a load of clothes to wash. Dutifully, I listened for the cycle changes and looked for leaks (I had the front side off to make it easier to check). In between I put up blinds, lights, and whatever else was on my honey-do list.

When the machine was done, she opened the door and exclaimed 'these are all sopping wet!'. Argh.....I never really went over and checked to make sure the tub was actually spinning, I just went by sound/noise.

Gah! Anyhow, I propped the washing machine up against the wall and verified that the belt (single belt btw) was intact, and if fact all 3 items were in motion during a spin cycle (motor, pump, and 'tub' wheel).

The tub just refuses to turn during a spin cycle. I tried physically moving it by hand during the spin cycle - nada. Underneath, the belt is happily moving all 3 wheels/cogs/whatever they're called'.

I did a bit of research and from what I can glean, it may be the 'thrust washer' assembly (or something closely called that....I've had a few and can't remember). Anybody out there have any ideas? I really should check during a full wash cycle to see if it agitates, but haven't been up there in a couple days to make sure.

Oh, bwt- its a Maytag Performa series - I dont exactly recall which model, but it's a single belt design. It was basically free, so if it could be a cheap fix, I'm all for it.

Thanx for reading the 'wall-o-text' lol

update:
I leaned the machine back so I could take a look-see underneath. I noticed that the motor was 'stuck' at a certain spot. It's on a kind of 'slide system' so it automagically adjusts the tension on the drive belt. Welp, it was stuck at a certain spot. I loosened the nut, moved it around a little bit, and tightened it back up. Voila, it now works! go figure........
