Is it okay to place the washer/dryer(front loaders) on the basement floor (concrete), or should you build a low platform to place them on?

I bought the platforms for my FL GE.

I wouldn't want to use the units without them.

Why would you say this? Just because one might not have anyone else to clean for doesn't mean they shouldn't have nice things.

Wife and I (no one else in our home) spent $2500 and we are not sorry for it either. 😛

Because paying for excess capacity and a flash paint job is foolish. I'm glad you have the money to spend but, let's not pretend it has anything to do with utility.

Front loaders main benefit is being able to be stackable without having to get a unitized top-loader which have horrible capacity. They can really help out when remodeling and helping to eek out extra floor space.

Do they even make non-HE washers anymore?

If they do, then that's what I would recommend. HE detergent just fails at getting BO out of synthetic cloth like Coolmax.

I stole a pair Maytag HE front-loaders for $850. They listed at over $1900. Sale plus 10% off, additional 10% off, $500 in rebates, and 1 year of free financing for a cherry. Home Depot.
