You'll find that consumer electronics and appliances these days aren't made as good as they were 20 years ago. The most common thing to go bad on a common GE/Whirlpool/Maytag/Kennmore Washer/Dryer/Dishwasher is the timer circuit which will be over $100 to replace.

My advice is to buy at least a mid-level scratch & dent unit if you can find one. It should at least last 4-5 years. If it makes it that long you should be good until you're ready to replace it again.

That's funny, I've never heard of that... but I did have a Sony DVD player that I got back when DVD players were $300. It died after 14 months (12 month warranty). Googling the error (C 13:00) led me to believe that it was a pretty common error on about a half dozen models (up to that point), and they typically died after 18-24 months due to a bad resistor or something like that.

It's kind of funny that people still believe in Sony's reputation for quality when they've put out so many other products with serious defects.

I almost went with the sport but instead chose the full sized ht Duet. $1800 for the pair. Should be at the store tomorrow for me to bring home.

The full sized Duet series uses a 6 point suspension system vs the 4 point of the Duet Sport. It's supposed to help reduce vibrations much more. Hopefully, you have better luck with the Duet than I had with the Sport.

Takes 3x longer to do one load than the old Maytag toploader- 60 minutes (or more) vs 20 minutes. Front loaders are much less productive.

Half that time can be saved when drying since your clothes are much drier when they come out of the washer. Add that your clothes are also cleaner and handled more gently while using less water and energy.

And based on cleaning options on the machine, a front-loader can do a load in 40 minutes or less.

Not to mention that a front loader can typically hold about 2 times as much as a top loader, from what I've seen.

Back in the early to mid 1990's, I went through three Sony discmans, all three died after 91 days; one day after the warranty expired. However, It was a good thing I purchased them from the now defunct Service Merchandise whom was kind enough to replace them for me all three times free of charge. Eventually, I did give up after the third one and took a store credit for something different.

40 minutes vs 20 minutes, that's twice the time it used to take and a 40 minute front load cycle is just a quick rinse and spin or delicate wash. Sucks.
