Anyone have anything good to say about a washer/dryer set? I am needing one, and with my discount at best buy, I figure I better buy them before I get fed up and leave 🙂

Any experiences/reccomendations welcome~
 
Whirlpool makes great appliances across the board. Maytag is great too. My parents just got a new washer and dryer last year...their old Maytag set had been going strong for 25 years (they had it since they got married) and they just thought it was time for a change.
 
My wife's cousin still has the Maytag set she bought 20 years ago and they haven't had to repair them ever. My wife and I just bought the new Maytag set with the washer that doesn?t have the agitator post (in the center of the tub), and don't plan on buying another for quite some time.
 
get a high capacity front loader. I think BB carries the GoodLiving brand....those are great machines (In-Laws have them). We have the Fridgedaire Gallery frontloader/dryer set which have all the essential features of the whirlpool neptune variety without the expensive bells and whistles
 
I have an Amana set and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I've had a few repairs under warranty and a few out of warranty in the 2.5yrs I've owned them. They had a good Consumer Reports rating too, but, not good for me.

I'm still not sure the frontloaders are worth the pricepenalty yet, the water savings don't really pay off for a few years... but they have other advantages too... the big disadvantage is that they usually don't have as much capacity so if you want to wash a comforter or something you'll probably be SOL.





 
My wife absolutely loves her Fisher and Paykel. Damn thing sounds like a jet turbine tho (which is kinds cool and kinda not)
 
i got the kenmore elite series ones w/ the larger capacity for around $450 onsale, they are pretty good and i think rate pretty high on consumer reports for the price.
 
Go with the Maytag if you can afford it. Maytag motors have the fewest moving parts, which is best. There are also other brands that are made by Maytag that don't cost as much (Optima?) that would come in as next best. Then you have Kenmore and Whirlpool at the next tier, then GE, Amana, Frigidaire are next with Roper and the like bringing up the rear.
 
For the washer, get one with the highest RPM for spinning. Cost a little more, but the clothes dry faster and better. Saves over the long run.

The Front loaders are more efficient and less wear on the clothes.

Well, since I haven't done laundry since 1989, I don't have a washer and dryer - they are definetly hers (and she would tell you the same). 🙂

Also, it's the washer that needs the high RPM, not the dryer. That's why our washer sounds like a jet turbine. When the clothes come out of the washer they are almost dry already.
 
We got the LG front loader stuff from costco, but I know best buy sells them too.
Our clothes seem clean, so I guess they are good.
 
I have a Kenmore Stackable. It's nice cause it doesn't take up a lot of space and is pretty easy to load and unload. I'm tall and am able to keep all my detergents and fabric softners on top of the dryer. I actually like this center better than the older ones I used to have.

Another vote for the Fisher Paykel. The washing machine rings the clothes so much that you barely need a dryer. I doubt if BB has them though
