Washburn Acoustic guitar ok?

I have an electric guitar at the moment, but I want to start playing with an acoustic guitar.
I am just looking around at sub $200 level guitar.

Particular looking at Yamaha and Washburn guitars since they are the most popular online for cheapo stuff.

I am a 6months newbie at guitar, so I don't like to play with strings that are too high from the neck.

I particular want to get either the washburn D11 or Yamaha F310.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

D-11
F-310

They both get similar reviews on Harmony Central... probably pretty comparable. If at all possible, find a local store that stocks both models (Guitar Center, etc.) and play each one. Buy the one that speaks to you.

My first acoustic was a Seagull S6+... great guitar and pretty cheap too. I don't play it much now that I have my Martin, but I'll never sell it.

Have fun!

Both are decent starter guitars. You can get a Fender acoustic for less than $199 too, which might be of better construction. The main problem with cheap guitars is 1) the action on them is usually set very high due to bowing of the neck 2) they don't stay in tune because of cheap tuners (Washburn has been using Grover tuning machines lately, so that'a plus), and 3) they don't hold up well because they're made of laminates.

Yes, Washburn makes good acoustic guitars.

If you are gonna spend $200, go the extra mile and make sure it is a solid top.

I think Washburn sells one that costs $199 when it is on sale.

You probably won't go wrong with a Yamaha either. The guitar I learned on was a Yamaha, and I've played a number of other Yamaha guitars in the last eleven years, and even the cheaper ones are usually pretty decent. But the Washburn should fine too.

My recommendations:

Jasmine (by Takamine) S35 Acoustic Guitar

Ibanez PF5 Dreadnought

Takamine G220 NEX Acoustic Guitar

Although I've only be playing for a year and a half, those were the guitars recommended to me by my friend who's been playing for over 10 years. I eventually ended up with a vintage 1964 Takamine dreadnought (e.g., the Martin look/sound-alike) -- last year's Christmas gift, given to me by my sister.

Pass on Fender acoustics. They're pretty crappy compared to the competition.
Yamaha, Seagull, & Washburn all make good acoustics.

Excellent. Takamine's are very high end guitars (it's not a Marin look alike- it's a Martin equal). I just got a Marin D-15 a few months back. It still smells like fresh mahogany

Get one from that Estaban guy on TV! It compares to a $2,000 guitar!

Wait no, don't

Washburn does make very nice accoustic guitars. I had one for awhile and was happy with the sound.

You want to get a solid top guitar because those sound better with age. Most guitars around $200 have plywood tops but I found a few at Musician's Friend with solid tops

Washburn D10S $199.99

Yamaha FG403S $196.99

Ibanez PF105SNT $197.99

There's free shipping over $199 so for the Yamaha & Ibanez you can add a few dollars worth of stuff (like picks)

I actually played (and owned it for a week) on that Yamaha guitar. It's actually 199.99 @ guitar center. It was alright, but i would advise he look at something else.

i have an old fender acoustic

its fine, sounds great, plays great

it's 15 years old though, so maybe the new ones suck

Fender would be better than Yamaha or Washburn, and Seagull wouldn't quite be "cheapo". I picked up a Fender DG-7 for my nephew last year and it's got great action on it, plus the tuning machines keep it in tune. It's got a solid spuce top (the laquer is kind of thick, so the sound is a little to muffled for my tastes), but for $160, it's a great playable instrument. The action on it is so low it's like playing an electric

Ask THENINJA. He wails on his a lot.

Normally I wail on an electric guitar b/c the noise is so loud it vibrates the panties right off of hot babes!!!! but sometimes I like to chill with my homies, so I reach for an acoustic guitar (don't get me wrong, it still wails but only enough to make my grandma cry like a school girl).

Ibanez PF15CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar - $295 though

or V70CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar - $197 (free shipping)

I like the black b/c it blends in nicely with my ninja suit and allows me a little more stealth too.

To answer your original question though....Yes, Washburn makes good acoustic guitars.

I own this guitar. I got it at a going out of business sale for $150 and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a great guitar if you can find a deal for it.

I haven't played any of them myself (had a Yamaha F310 and FG432S as my first guitars though). The Washburn looks like a decent deal though

I have a F-10S. I got it for around $200. Decent guitar, good looking and plays nice for the price.
