Young punks fail to realize that most of us old guys actually know how to defend ourselves with or without weapons. They see an unrealistic movie and think by mimicking what is on the screen they are now tough. Most of us that carry guns legally have quite a bit of experience shooting them. An educated person is not going to carry a weapon they cannot use with effectiveness.

I would agree with that statement. Every Marine I know is someone I would not suggest anyone mess with, even the old ones. I guess those news stories drive that point home.

I imagine there are a lot of former Marines that are pissed about those headlines. ;)

While I found both stories heartwarming and a testament to knowing self defense, every marine I've met has been a foul tempered asshole. I've met at least a dozen.

Just saying.

My former boss is an ex-Marine and he's one of the funniest and friendliest guys I've met. Sure, if you get on his bad side or F up royally he's going to let you know.

"shoots two would-be robbers at a Subway"

Would-be robbers? So it's the death penalty for just thinking about robbing something now? Or did they have weapons or something?

They had to be there to rob the place. Nobody in their right mind would eat at Subway.

Seems like you know already, but just in case, Marines (both old and new school) hate being called Ex-Marines.

Once a Marine always a Marine.

Also, calling them Jarhead and Devildog really aren't acceptable unless you're a fellow Marine. Leatherneck seems to be okay.

My current roommate is an inactive Marine and he's one of the brightest and friendliest guys I know. That said, I wouldn't want to be the person who manages to really piss him off. There's always that impression that if he ever snaps, it's going to be mightily impressive.

That's FCKING JARHEAD to you, MAGGOT!! Get it right! ;)

That's been my standard answer for over 30 years to anyone who referred to Marines as Jarheads...

Hell, even active Marines...

Now that you mention it, I can't think of a day where I woke up and said "Today is the day I will fsck with the Marines."
