I don't recall seeing that episode but have had CD's explode also.

It is almost always due to a CD that had a hairline crack already though.

So did anyone cap yesterday's mythbusters? I can't find it on any of the torrent sites and some 'sceen' asshole on EZTV told me they didn't release it because nobody wanted it...

Well I want it, and if anyone has it, it would be very much appreciated!

And don't tell me I'm a thief, I have no way to pay to watch this show, no channel in this country carries it except in a crappy dubbed half-hour version.

sometimes they are wrong, or fail. but they do a very good job at busting myths, and you cant expect anyone to get it all right 100% of the time.

I've only seen the show like twice, and one of the episodes I saw had them doing a retraction. It had to do with whether it was more efficient to have your windows down or use the air conditioner while driving. Turns out, at speeds below 55, it's better to have the window down. Above that, the drag factor lowers your gas mileage more than using the AC does, so it becomes beneficial to switch to AC. They originally had said that you should just always use the AC.

So clearly they are sometimes wrong.

My biggest complaint is the number of trials they run! I understand it might not make good television, but the viewer doesn't have to see all the testing, just a nice graph...

Well then they shouldn't claim that their results are certain! The end of the show is always then talking about how "yeah, this could never happen...this myth is BUSTED."

I like the show, and I suppose they have to sound certain to make for good TV, but it's kind of anti-science.

I love the show. I disagree with them on some things but, in general, I think they do a pretty good job of testing stuff AND being entertaining.

Smash Lab, on the other hand, is filled with idiots.

Yea, I'll give you that, they do sound quite sure of themselves at the end always but I think they have to sound that way. Can't expect them to say they're still not sure after all the work they did.

It was better when they were using myths that were obviously far-fetched, but when they got down to trying to tackle really technical myths they started substituting so many things to fit in a budget or sale of their experiment that it sacrificed integrity.

Like when they did the bit on "Archimedes' Death Ray" and counted it as busted, they didn't look in to things as much as Rob Cockerham did.

Often times my biggest issue with them is that they don't do enough trials. In 1 - 3 trials the desired result may not occur if the odds of something are 50/50. To their defense some tests are so expensive they can't be done very often.

They claimed the old "sugar in the gas tank" was busted... that didn't stop sugar from clogging up my fuel filter. It would get enough gas to idle and travel at low speeds, but as soon as you increased the load, the engine would die. Took me months to figure out the problem, because the car had two filters, and one was in a very dark, secluded spot and very dirty (found it when I was getting ready to pull the fuel lines).

yeah, what kind of blatant rip off show is that?

just because the mythbusters usually end each myth by taking things to the extreme and blowing stuff up doesn't mean we want a ripoff show that just blows up stuff

They're wrong quite often, especially lately. The myths are getting more complex and "big" and they're not capable of properly testing them anymore, a lot of the time. However, it's an entertainment program, and whatever they say has to be taken with a massive grain of salt, so it doesn't bother me. :)

Yeah what a joke Smash Lab seems to be. I've only seen the cement episode and talk about lame. An hour to smash a car into a cement mixture with 40% air or something, and drive a car over 40% air mixture. Wow they are awesome at science, math, and being original.

They did a show where they couldn't get a aerosol can to explode in a hot box, last summer one exploded in a co-worker's car here at work.

Yesterday's Mythbuster's episode was pretty lame I thought. A lead balloon and starting a wave using dynamite? C'mon how practical is that?
Ever since Kari dyed her hair red she's gotten even more annoying. "So you're going to build a Row-Bot... get it??"

it's hard for them to say a myth is confirmed when they can't replicate it in their experiments. that's why they use "plausible" a lot these days.
