Was Trump just another Nixon/Ford?

Both Nixon and Ford promised that America will have its own Super Sonic Transport, after Britain (Concorde) and the Soviet Union (TU-144) had created there own Super Sonic Transport aircrafts. It never went thru, and America never ended up having its own SST.

Trump promised a Great Trump Wall, in the likes of the Great Wall of China and Berlin Wall. It never ended up happening.

The reason America never did those two things were one reason, the house did not like it.

No, he wishes he was a Nixon. Nixon, despite being politically corrupt actually cared about this country and had real policies and real accomplishments.

Trump will be ranked as one of the worst presidents of all time for his part in the insurrection and for his unwillingness to not peacefully transfer power to the new president.

No and your argument is silly, OP. There's never been a President like Turmp, the closest analogue would've been Jefferson Davis, followed by the super corrupt one from the 1870s (I forget, Andrew Jackson?), then possibly Nixon (although he was the consummate slimy politician that is why people hate politicians) then maybe Reagan. Even mentioning Ford is so silly that I don't even know what you could be thinking with that.

I don't agree. On either Turmp wishing he was like Nixon or that either Nixon or Turmp really loved America and weren't just doing things for themselves. Nixon is one of the all time worst as well (easily vying for a spot in the 5 worst Presidents in U.S. history), but I'd agree that Turmp is for sure worse, and is competing for the position as the absolute worst President in all of U.S. history.

No. Trump is in a category all by himself, period. Any attempt to compare him to rational functioning adults, of either party, is a futile attempt to normalize the damage and crimes he is responsible for.

Ford was a footnote. Nixon was a crook, but at least never polished Brezhnez's cock at a summit, or tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power with an insurrection.

Trump is unlike any other president I can think of because he’s the first one that rest didn’t give a shit about the job. He had no enduring policy goals, his only interests were enriching himself and trying to meet his emotional needs. I always found it funny in that interview where Hannity asked him what he wanted to do in a second term and it’s obvious he hadn’t even thought about it.

Amusingly enough this probably made him more popular as his polling low point was right at the start when he tried to enact the Republican agenda. Once he gave up and just focused on using the office for personal gain he went from horrifyingly unpopular to just unpopular.

Ford did not want to bail-out NYC.

And you think that's on the level of Nixon and Turmp? That's my point, I'm not saying he was great or even good, but I think objectively, Ford was not even close to either of those two. I honestly don't get why you're making the comparisons you are in this thread.

Nixon talked about killing political enemies (which was basically anyone that disagreed with him), he tried to evade being held accountable for trying to win an election via illegal means by firing the people that would prosecute him.

Turmp is what Nixon wish he could have been.

Pretty sure Trump is at the top of the list worst-wise. Yet, there's over 70+ million folks who thinks he's the best prez ever. That's some scary shit right there.

He's Gomer Pyle, Gilligan, Dennis the Menace and Lucifer all rolled into one hot mess of what could barely be called a human being.

Whatever happened to those folks who voted for Trump the second time around is something the world's wanna-be dictators and our enemies abroad have surely taken note of and will be looking for opportunities to take advantage of that......again.

It never went thru, and America never ended up having its own SST.
You say that as if it was a bad thing. Those programs went nowhere and cost the respective governments a ton of money.
SST =stupid subsidized transportation

As much as I despised Tricky Dickie, he was magnitudes better than King Donnie.

That’s such a low bar though. In fact I’m fairly confident pretty much anyone on this whole forum could have been better than trump.

Nixon and Ford were intelligent, but their own intelligence brought their downfall. Trump is a dump.

BTW, there's some American company working on a next-gen supersonic bird for airline travel. One of the major US carriers has "preordered" planes for a 2035 delivery. *roll eyes*

No. Nixon and Ford were still "normal" politicians, who respected some lines and what the public thought. Nixon ended up resigning after all.

Trump was actually surprising to me because now looking back, we all lucked out that people around him managed to talk him out of some of his worst impulses. A 2nd term would have seen all that go, in fact the longer Trump stuck around the more lickspittle his hirelings became. Some call that the "deep state" like it's something bad, I call them doing the right thing and standing up to a wits-addled elderly child whose every thought is a combination of "who loves me" and "who hates me, I need to punish them."

The Wall was a complete joke. It would never have worked no matter how much money you threw at it. It's the War on Drugs cast in concrete. All it ever was intended to be is what it was--a symbol and rallying cry for the hate of GOP supporters eager to blame anything and everything on something "other" (illegals are always convenient).

Trump is Nixon if you factor in
10x the corruption with 1/10 the competence

Nixon talked about killing political enemies...

Trump wanted much and more.

Trump entertained killing us all in a military coup.

Trump was actually surprising to me because now looking back, we all lucked out that people around him managed to talk him out of some of his worst impulses.

True, he was nothing if not evil and incompetent. It fell on others to carry out his will, but he largely surrounded himself with people who loved America more. Surprising though it may be, there were still plenty of Republicans who did not want to see this country burn. Ashes are not profitable after all. Trump would have burned it all if he could.

To that end, he currently stands alone. But make no mistake. Future Presidents, especially Republicans, will resemble Trump from now on. Trump will not be the last Trump. And we are destined to run out of luck ere long. Soon there will be an evil and competent President willing to stage the coup, to seize power and end our Democracy by the will of their voters.
