I don't get the hype - seriously. I saw the film on a IMAX, consider myself a mild fan of the original series, and went to see the new film with an open mind and no expectations. I liked the first third of the film and the actor who played Kirk, but was dissapointed by the rest. Spent most of the time texting my GF. I can appreciate good CGI like the next guy, but for crissakes (will try to avoid spoliers):

(1) Time-Travel plot has has been worn thin in too many other movies.

(2) Chekov/Scottie were frikken annoying - their dialect is funny for the first ten seconds, then the shtick got old fast.

(3) 'New' Spock needed Prozac.

(4) Entire sequence leading up to Kirk meeting 'Old Spock' was so cheezy it made 'Lost in Space' look like 'Space Odyssey'. I thought Hollywood writers were no longer on strike?

(5) Some Interior shots of Enterprise look suspiciously like they were filmed in a sewage treatment plant.

(6) My theater was sold out, audience looked bored for most of the film, but then applauded (except for me) at the end as if they were expected to. not because they wanted to.

Glad some of you liked it, but I'll take my booms and explosions in the form of 'Transformers' or 'Terminator'. One Star Trek IV was enough.

There's already a thread in which to post your review here.

I don't think your shields will hold up to the flaming you get for texting while in a movie. That's just messed up.

Fuck you, that's annoying as shit. The light from a cell phone screen is very noticeable in a dark theater. Unless you were in the back row, in which case it's still annoying because of the little clicky noises most phones make when you press the buttons.

So unless you were in the back row and you have a touchscreen phone, you come off as a big jerk to me. If you wanted to text you should have walked out.

I've heard a few people say it was better than Wolverine...

I rarely make it to the theater to see any movies anymore, but this one appeared to be worthy of the big screen.

I'm assuming from your description that once the shock value wore off in the beginning of the film, the writing didn't carry the story enough? This seems to be the problem with most movies these days...and in some cases the directors/producers decide to make the movie longer to make up for the poor writing...it never makes sense.

So you're that douche in the theater who thinks it's harmless to send text messages in a dark room while the rest of us try not to be distracted by the blue square of light a couple of rows down?

Edit - Astro beat me to it.

Oh wow, awesome, I have been waiting to see your opinion on this, so I'm glad you created a new thread to tell us, or I may have missed it and I would have been very upset if that had happened.

OMG you're one of those people who think they're totally special for disliking a movie everybody else likes. Grats, you win the internet.

Well the fact that you said you want booms and explosions for Transformers I can tell you're not to concerned with character development and actually over all story.
Oh look a penny

haha ok. I understand the light - but the "clicky noises"? Really? I guess you get pissed if the person below you is eating popcorn too?

Actually I realized after I posted that that the movie is loud enough any sounds would be drowned out. My phone is a little clickier than most but with everyone eating popcorn and picking up their ice-filled drinks, I guess it all blends into the background.

Still though! My point about the screen lighting up and being annoying still stands.

I posted a thread here a couple of years ago about how I'd pay extra to be in a theater where no food of any kind was allowed, so yes, I fit into that category.
