This is very "Thought Police"

The Government has outlawed almost everything, and they spend money like crazy, so yes, they will be watching you.

"Thought Police."

-John

Pledging allegiance and support is a bit more than a thought crime.

Um about that..... our government swaps labels so fast it is difficult to keep up. Yesterday's freedom fighter receiving our tax dollars and weapons is tomorrow's terrorist! When are we going to prosecute government officials and imprison them for funding "freedom fighters" who turn into "terrorists"?! Jesus, ISIS is swimming in supplies and material that originated from the United States government. Who in the United States government is being prosecuted for it?

When someone in Syria invites you to come over, marry him, and provide medical aid to a bunch of gunshot victims, I would advise you to go ahead and look up any groups they're affiliated with in any known terrorist organization registrars before taking them up on that tempting offer. You know just to be safe.

I don't know every little detail about this woman but on the surface I don't agree with the government at all.

Last I heard we were in a state of war against any and all terrorist organizations.

So we're at "war" with a word?

Seems kind of vague. Not sure of the constitutionality of that. Or of the fact that I don't think there ever was a formal declaration of war voted on and approved by congress. Sure, there was one for Iraq and Afghanistan...but that wouldn't seem to apply to Turkey.

He said Terrorist Organization; not terrorism. Not saying you don't have a good point, but being at war with organizations is a lot different than a word.

Oddly, the video in the linked article paints a starkly different picture than the text. Here's a transcript in case anyone cares but doesn't want to watch it:

A Colorado teenager arrested and charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.

Nineteen year old Shannon Maureen Conley taken into custody by the FBI as she attempted to board a plane to Turkey at the Denver international airport in April.
Her goal, authorities say, to unite with the radical Islamist group ISIS in syria, and marry a jihadist she met on the internet.
According to a newly unsealed criminal complaint Conley discussed her radical beliefs with federal agents over the course of an 8 month investigation,
referring to US military bases as targets, and telling investigators she thought she could plan an attack on US soil but could not carry it out because
she lacked the means and opportunity. Ignoring warnings that aiding terrorists would result in her arrest, Conley told investigators she needed to go
overseas to be trained in Jihad.
The teenager became the subject of an FBI investigation after a pastor who feared she was planning an attack at a local church reported what he
saw as suspicious activity to the police.

Rev. George Morrison: "She became more, a little bit more hostile. And eventually we came to her and said listen, it's just probably better that you not come back."

According to court documents, Conley told investigators that she hates the people at the church, asserting "If they think I'm a terrorist, I'll give them something to think I am."

According to the complaint, agents recovered material about Jihad and al-Qaeda from her house, in addition to DVDs of
Enwar al-Awalki, the american militant killed in a drone strike in Yemen in 2011. The teenager joins a growing list of Americans who have been detained for attempting to join terrorist organizations abroad.

And according to this recently unsealed criminal complaint, Conley even received military training in an effort to train Jihadists overseas about US military tactics, and when the FBI encouraged her to join a humanitarian aid organization instead, she allegedly said it was not
an option because it would not solve the problem of protecting Muslim lands.

If this is true then there's far more going on than her wanting to marry the wrong person.

So people aren't allowed to change their beliefs and choose their own allegience anymore?

People who do this:

"referring to US military bases as targets"

Or this:

"and telling investigators she thought she could plan an attack on US soil but could not carry it out because she lacked the means and opportunity"

Shouldn't be detained? If these things are accurate the problem goes beyond wanting to marry a terrorist and crosses into wanting to be a terrorist.

Let her go, then. Once she's gone, who fucking cares?

Why spend our tax dollars to keep her locked up?

If you're not willing to put a bullet in her head, she must not be enough of a threat to warrant any action at all.

Been in the news a while now here.

She explicitly stated, to the FBI agents who showed up at her house, that she intended to wage jihad and attack US interests. They basically warned her not to leave the country, asked her parents to intervene and get her help because she was obviously a fruit cake. She resisted their efforts to help, and tried to leave. BAM! Arrested.

Pretty sure the authorities more likely think she's crazy and needs help, hence the psych eval ordered.

So basically your argument is:

1) Nobody can ever harm US citizens or US interests if they leave the country (and potentially not permanently)
2) If the government isn't willing to kill someone they must not view them as any kind of problem. In which case I suppose we should do away with the prison system and just sentence everyone to immediate execution after their trial.

Am I misunderstanding here? Because this sounds kind of off. You really think there's nothing wrong with a US citizen who has received military training being allowed to go to a foreign enemy and leaking information about our military? After admitting that was her plan?
