Was this a good deal? Could it give a 8800GTS 320 a good fight?

Hi,

I had a Sapphire x1950pro Ultimate Silent and wanted to trade it for a superior performance card. I was about to buy a 8800GTS 320mb for around 270$ when I found a 7950 GX2 for just 150$.

It felt it was a deal too good to let it pass, so I bought it. Besides the obvious lack of DX10 support (wich I honestly don't care), have I really made a good deal? In terms of pure performance, is it a match for the 8800GTS 320? (please bear in mind that it costed me 120$ less than a 8800GTS 320). It would be nice to get some oppinions.

PS - Does anyone know if this particular card, the XFX 7950 GX2 is noticiably noisier than my old near-silent x1950pro Ultimate? My PC is almost silent and I fear that this new card could ruin my near-silent-PC project.

$150 for a 7950GX2? Hell yes, that is a good deal. Instead of the 8800GTS, compare it to the X1950 XTX. Is $150 a good deal for an X1950 XTX? Hell yes. The 7950GX2 is faster than the X1950 XTX AND consumes less power.

I don't know where you got an XFX 7950GX2 for $150 but I am tremendously jealous.

EDIT: Wait, your question is if your 7950GX2 is a match for the 8800GTS 320MB. That depends. It should be a little slower or faster in general (a little slower in shader-heavy games, a little faster in other games).

The Gx2 would have an advantage at higher resolutions because of it's increased texture memory. (512 megs useable -vs- 320Megs.) Say anything above 1600 or so. If you're below that, the 8800 would be faster but probably not $120 faster.

I have a GX2 and love it. It's not noisy that I can tell, but then again I have my TV in the same room as my computer so it may dround out the fan noise. It will be at least one more generation of video card before I consider replacing it, and then only when any games I play then warrent it.

sheesh, that is a fantastic deal! Where did you find a gx2 for $150??? I thought I got a good deal on an x1950xt for $155 shipped, but that is nothing compared to yours!

Yes, yes, please do tell us...

Where did you find a 7950 GX2 for $150 !?!

I'm betting that you didn't get it off of eBay because the eBidiots would have bid the price up to $300. I figure that you must have found it at some online store that doesn't understand video card values.

That's the 640MB version but still, the 8800 is faster, just not by too much, plus it consumes more power.
