Was the US better off before or after George W Bush?

Do you think the US was in better shape before or after George W Bush's presidency?

This thread is not about Mr Obama.

After Bush? The US certainly appears better after his departure.
Of course it is, we're a kinder & gentler spying, astronomical debt generating war machine.

What you say is true; however, at the very least, Obama represents the lesser of two evils.

You wont know unless you have the full picture and I seriously doubt we'll ever get all that info. For all we know there may have been many thwarted terrorist attacks. In that sense I would say yes. But just based on what info we do know I would say because of the bad economy, corporate corruption, and idiotic bailouts that were past in the last months of 2008 I would say no.

I think everyone needs to also keep in mind that the representatives and senators are the main cause for a majority of the government problems not the president.

The context of the question is was the US in better shape before or after George W Bush's presidency.

Hannity is smoking something. I certainly would not put all the blame on Bush or his administration, but he certainly bears some of the blame. The country's standing in the world has been greatly tarnished, politics in DC have gotten even more polarized, and the delicate balance between executive, legislative and judicial branches has been upset. Beyond that, by virtue of his policies and their results, Bush set the stage for an Obama administration paired with a democrat controlled house and senate that will increase the scope of government and deficit spending like never before seen in the history of the world. I's say that's a bad thing.

Considering we have a new Administration, promising all sorts of change, we sure have a lot of threads about the old Administration and talk radio hosts in this forum. Apparently Obama isn't doing anything which interests anyone.

Rush Limbaugh! Torture! Ignore that multi-trillion dollar elephant in the corner.

Under Obama, we are definitely not better off. All of these far left leaning pin heads are a waste of oxygen, try to be a little objective why don't you. As far as national security, if we elected a decent president to follow up after GWB, we would be better off. The economy is another story, it is much worse now and the leftie's boy BHO is running with that bull. It is obvious the left does not care about the country, just power and all you zealots are so focused on Bush you can't seem to get your head out of your ass and try to fix things. You listen to BHO tell you something in a speech and never check to see what he really did, which is usually just the opposite of what he claimed he would do. Then you resort to calling honest working people at the Tea Parties redneck racist without paying attention to the fact that what they want is beneficial to all the people of this country, not just your left-wing jackass ideals.

I'll answer.

Far, far worse.

While we've gone down the right path towards civil liberties, I could give two shits about a few hundred non-US citizens.

99% of Bush's policies are still in place. Name one significant policy that impacts most americans that's been changed.

Meanwhile we've made drunken sailors look frugal. We invest in the shit of our economy (shit housing, shit car manufacturers, shit credit card debt holders), we're bigger whores to the banks than ever. But hey, we can carry concealed weapons in national parks!

edit: Oh, I kind of misread the question. 😱

We definitely were better off before his presidency, and far worse now under Obama, but we'd be far worse under McCain too, just hard to say if there'd be much difference as their policies were about the same.

Start a thread on this subject.

It was the same, overall. Just like it's the same under Obama. The President doesn't actually have that much effect overall.

The question should be whether it was better or worse before or after Dem control of Congress, imo. 😀

But I won't ask that one.

Lemme guess...you're one of the few idiots in this country who actually agrees with Hannity.

This. The OP is asking a loaded question. Many mistakes were made by the Bush administration, but it is not fair or logical to blame him for everything, which is the popular sentiment at the moment. I guess it comes with the territory though, being the head honcho.

The US certainly appears better after Bush left. feels like our economy is stablizing and healing... it'll be at least 1 yr before we see any major effect though... what Bush had done in 8 yrs cannot be undone within months...
