Was The Dark Knight too dark? I think so.

Definitely Avatar. At least Dark Knight is a decent film.

I'm sorry but TDK is WAYYYY more overrated than Avatar. Which one sold hundreds of millions more? Which one was basically a re-done sequel to a prequel? Which one needed a posthumous performance to gain popularity? Which one did better at the Oscars? I don't even remember ever seeing ONE commercial for Avatar when it was in theaters, just cinematic trailers before a bunch of movies and Blu-ray adverts when the release was upcoming.

Well at least I didn't fall asleep in Dark Knight and I would rather watch Dark Knight 40 more times again before having to watch Crapatar again.

Avatar won 3 Oscars (one of which was an absolute disgrace; Best Cinematography? Seriously? Fucking joke.) and DK won 2 (one of which was actually an acting award). Overall Avatar had only one more nomination, so fail argument there.

There was a whole crapload of advertising for Avatar all over the place. Not sure what the heck you are talking about; I couldn't escape it at all. That's the way it goes with all of the blockbusters now, so not sure what you are getting at there. You are always going to be overwhelmed with advertising for these types of films if you have your eyes open at all. DK was going to be huge anyway, but yeah, sure it got a boost from Ledger's death, and rightfully so. Not sure what is bad about that.

Anyway, I like DK, probably about 1,000 times more than Avatar, but it's nowhere near a perfect film, but it is very good for a superhero film and I think Nolan did some good stuff there and actually had a story and characters I was interested in, more so than anything Cameron was able to do.

Not only that Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time. OF ALL TIME.
It was also nominated for Best Picture which TDK was not. But the overall value of certain movies were inflated this past year because of the extra nominations. (10 nominations)

The acting was Avatar was really awkward and cliche at some times as well, which a lot of people tend to agree. So in that sense it is overrated but not that overrated.

TDK did become overrated but on par with Avatar and it still delivered imo. TDK was a better movie overall.

Well at least with Avatar it stayed with the lame storyline and didn't try to take it self so seriously like Dark Knight did. That stupid cellphone crap and the fact that they tried to cram in too much in the last quarter of the movie killed it for me.

Nominations were increased to 10 because Dark Knight was not nominated the prior year, not that it should have won.

I tend not to put too much stock in grosses anymore. Avatar is the highest grossing before inflation adjustment; it also had the benefit of the extra charge for 3D which inflated its grosses.

they should get a black guy to play batman to make this franchise even darker.

How about a little Flavor

TDK was the first Super Hero movie that truly excelled in all phases because it was dark. The characters were portrayed by the perfect actors for the parts IMO. It is a top movie of all-time, but in no way is on par with Avatar. Avatar was engrossing and spectacular. Avatar is the greatest movie of All-time, bar none.

ROFL, that's a good one. 😀

I cannot believe I agree with Keith. Avatar was a dirty, smelly, unwashed piece of cinematic filth, bar none. And I havent even seen the movie!

Heck, even Dark Knight is better than that washed out, dumbed down teenie bopper flick made for the Ke$ha generation.

Damn I hate that movie.

keep on trolling trolling trolling!

so did you suffer from some 5 month-long temporary blindness during this time, or something?

Wait, so how did you enjoy Avatar during this blindness? :hmm:

Hey guys! I made some awesome mashed potatoes last night when I sautéed some garlic in some butter, and then whipped them into the potatoes. I could have ate that as the meal!

TDK was awesome, easily in my top 20 movies of all time, but I've long since given up defending it on this forum. Too many people here judge movies as opposed to watching them. Case in point, complaining about the cell-phone-sonar system and the voice.

ATOT: "Because the universe and characters aren't what the director, actor and writers make it, they're what I would make it or it's stupid."

Kinda agree, lighting was terrible.

Felix sure is trolling hard these days.

He is indeed!

For a few weeks now, he is trying very hard to be the parent who only lets his kids watch the Waltons combined with ludicrosity and douche.

Patently boring to see how the rest will all unfold.

It was kind of dark, but, more importantly, it wasn't very good. I think they need to get rid of Bale, too.
