Was Sandy Bridge a let down?

I guess it is where are you now as to when is the right time to build a new system. My i7 920 is @ 2.5 years old and my i7 950 is @ 1.5 years old so I did not see the need to move to a SB system. Yes it was an improvement over what I had, but was it really that much of an improvement, not for me.
So I look forward to an SB-E system soon, heck I have a 16G memory kit already. This will be a nice upgrade from the i7 920 system with six or maybe latter eight SB cores. Sounds like a system I will keep for awhile.

This may be a tangent, but I've been looking for a thread to discuss this:

The 2500k is simply the best processor I have ever owned, and not just because it is the most modern. In terms of value, it is the best overclocker I have ever owned (I've owned 6 AMD cpus, 3 Intels, and a POS Cyrix P166+ hot plate), better even than the Celeron 300A, which though it achieved a stable 50% OC, did not do so across 4 cores. And, though mine can't hit 5 Ghz on air cooling, many have (also a 50% OC). Bulldozer is not going to eclipse it, and though Ivy Bridge may, it appears that this CPU is going to have an extraodinarily long viability term (I'm guessing 4 years of strong viability), and at a $200 price point, that just cannot be beat.

I rarely gush about hardware, but I've owned a lot of good and bad, and I think this is my favorite piece besides my Dell IPS monitor, my old Sony 25" Trintron CRT, and edging out the former 8800GT/9800GT which set a record for me personally in terms of longevity/viability for a GPU (4 years and is still viable in all but the most recent games).

Sorry for the interruption. I just like it when a company, especially one as stodgy as Intel, does something right.

I would like to take this opportunity then to compliment you on your pic of the nice looking girls drinking beer. I think I've seen that one before, but for the life of me I can't remember where.

Oh, and I'll be buying a 2500k rig to replace my dead ip35 pro system on or before BF, for the reasons that you listed in your pots.
