Basically I signed a lease and it's not effective yet. The landlord tells me he might be selling his house and asked me how I want to get compensated and I told him what I wanted. Is there anything I can do to protect myself? I'm not asking for legal advice I'm just asking if someone had been in the same situation. Thanks!

Just get something in writing. At least he was nice enough to work with you on compensation. Most landlords would try to pull a fast one and get out while spending the least amount of money possible.

Whene the home is sold, it is common for the buyer to be contractually obligated to continue with the contract you have. That also means when the lease is up, you could be asked to leave depending on what the buyer wants the home for.
