"Kevin Mackle, a 19-year-old Quebec student, killed himself at Bishop's University while shaking a 420-kilogram Coke machine. He had been celebrating the end of final exams with friends. He died beneath the soda machine, asphyxiated, with a blood alcohol level slightly over the legal driving limit. "

Then there's a link to this website. The family is suing a bunch of companies... I just wanted to post this because I think it's sad how sue-happy the world is and here's a prime example.

Yeh, unless I missed something, it is a Canadian family suing someone for the stupidity of their son.

LOL

Why was the machine located in the Lobby of a student residence, with no warning stickers in place, in a confined area?

I know some students can be morons but a WARNING label?? I would take offense to that!!

Sheesh! I feel bad for the family but accidents do happen and if this kid was behaving rashly....then there is no one to blame but the kid himself.

Yeah, they should surround the coke-machine with signs saying "beware of the coke-machine!". there should also be a warning sticker saying "Warning, pushing the coke-machine on yourself or on someone else might cause serious injuries".

Sheesh, use some common sense people!

Actually, I think the pop machine here at work has a little sign on it with a stick figure and pop machine falling on him :)

If I were the parents, I'd be doing everything in my power to cover up the incident. Why would anyone want to make a big deal about how stupid their kid was?

Zenmervolt- LMAO good point!

I think the safety req's in Canada are different than the USA, hence the labels are on the machines here but not over there? I could be wrong....

But it just goes to show you how effective a label is...I had no idea sada machines have such a label here.

Bottom line, some people are just plain dumb....and the poor kid paid for it.

Wow. I am speechless.

I mean, you know that irrational people are out there, but then you see something like this and you are just stunned.

The machine weighed 900lbs and its Coke's fault that this kid managed to pull it down onto himself?!?

We've all read the factoid that more people are killed by donkeys every year than are killed in plane crashes - why isn't somebody doing something about the donkeys!?!

What next? Demands that refrigerators be bolted to walls?

The damn kid was trying to steal from the coke machine, and it fell on him. Terrible, yes, but he got what he asked for.

Anyone remember the Simpsons episode when Homer had the vending machine fall on him? LOL, that's all I can think of.

Those attack Coke machines are some dangerous - they have to be kept in a confined area!

What's even sadder is how a burglar that cuts himself breaking a window to break into someone's house will sue and win (I read that somewhere, no links, sorry).

Whats even more funny is that he had been drinking. Whens the last time you saw a drunk person read warning labels or hell, even act rationally for that matter. "IF THERE HAD BEEN A WARNING LABEL OUR INTOXICATED SON WOULD HAVE NEVER SHAKEN IT!"

the family, while I'm sorry for their loss, obviously shares the same mental deficiency that killed their son as he attempted to steal a can of coke from a vending machine.
