Yes you were rude but the CSR did seem to respond like a robot. Almost feels like a recruit taking his lumps from the drill instructor.

I find 9 times out of 10 that being nice and courteous is the way to get what you want. As someone who has much experience in retail, when someone is bitchy to me I usually stick to the rules by the book(eg. This coupon expired yesterday sorry). If someone is nice I'll help them(eg. This coupon expired yesterday but ill take it this time).

That goes far beyond retail too. There was a compliance guy that kept calling me and saying all kinds of obnoxious things like

"Good morning _______ this is __________ and I'm calling from a recorded line. Can you let me know when we'll receive the trade report?"

I basically told him to go see Heywood. Finally his boss called with a completely different tone. Problem was resolved that day.

sometimes you don't have a choice.

there are many phone banks out there where reps are told to stick to the script no matter what, and would get in more trouble by thinking for themselves than making a client upset.

I'm sure "Sidney" is used to it. You didn't make her/him cry. :p

Btw, I feel your pain with TWC. My bill has been going up a dollar or two there for the past 6 months. What can you do? They have you over a barrel.

My brother will call them when his promo period ends and ask them to lower it again or he is switching to another provider. He tells them he wants the promo rate, and they seem to always give it to him again for 6 mos.

What I really hate is when they argue with you on what you really want. Recently I canceled my tv service because I'm using all internet tv. The conversation was a 15 minute back and forth on how he could lower my rate.

I started off nice, but eventually told him I'd keep my tv service if it was free. Otherwise, cancel it and that if he asked me again he could cancel the internet portion too.

No shit... the CSR probably had 10 other chat sessions going at least. I imagine it would be too expensive to hire someone to chat 1 on 1. The CSR was probably busy helping someone who was not an asshat.

If you want to know what it feels like to be a real man, take two minutes to find the CSR feedback form, write a brief but earnest apology, and ask that it finds its way to "Jillian". I can't stand what passed for customer service either, but being an ass will not fix it.

Recognizing a mistake and apologizing as appropriate is good for the soul. Everyone makes mistakes, but what it is important to me is how the mistake is handled, self included.

You deserve to be left by your wife... nobody should be allowed to act like that and still have a family

"Sidney" sounded like low-grade artificial intelligence that can't fight back. :)

So why aren't you doing what your brother does? The best way to get what you want is to say I am going to switch providers.

Sounds like great advice.

haha; It's my wife's name. Her account, her credit was 730 while mine was 5xx.

That's what I was thinking too. I knew ATOT would confirm my worst thoughts about myself ;-).

To have a credit score of anything less than 600 shows you clearly do not pay your bills. I am betting your wife's 730 is due to really not using credit yet.

It's like the 21 year old bragging his score is in the upper 700's but doesn't even have a credit card or loan history.

Do they even give proper scores until you have a certain amount of credit? Meh... anyway, I'm 24 and from just recently buying a car I found out mine is 670. Pretty solid given my history (or lack thereof). Now I just have to NOT fuck it up.

Well that's the thing, a high score is meaningless without any credit history behind it.

Yeah, when I applied for my first car loan at 18, my history consisted of a 4 month old $500 credit card, but my score was 714
