Presumably the OP said it was a PCI card in the item description. If he hadn't specified, the guy would have asked if it was AGP or PCI Express. But he asked if it was PCI or PCI Express, so that means the OP probably called it a PCI card, which would have confused the guy. So he asked. PCI is not short for PCI Express. Looks like the OP talked himself out of a sale.

Actually, I didn't say anything about it being PCI in the description. I (erroneously, apparently) assumed that someone smart enough to install a video card know that they don't make 7800GTX cards in AGP or standard PCI.

Well that's a dumb assumption. Who would care enough to keep track of which video cards are sold in which configurations? And with their naming schemes these days, you can't even really tell by the model number which card is better than which other cards without doing research, so I have no idea if that's a high end card or a low end card. I've installed plenty of video cards, but I don't care about the specs.

If somebody said that to me in real life, I wouldn't even have known it was supposed to cause offense.

I don't think it was rude, just unnecessary - a simple "it's PCI-Express" would've sufficed

Yeah exactly.

Pick your role, are you a salesman or IT professor?

Also welcome to selling technical things in non-technical circles. My ebay ads get about 100 questions for every 1 here on AT FST I'd bet. Then there is the usual headaches post sale when the person realizes they asked the wrong questions for their needs.

Don't think sales is going to be ever one of your careers. Probably not support on anything of any kind either....probably leaves out medical/law/financial/construction jobs as well.

I don't know if you will be employable.
