Was I rude here?

I tried to sell a 7800 GTX on Facebook using the marketplace feature. About a day after I posted it, I got a response from someone I'll call "Nate":

---

Nate: Hey man, is it a PCI or PCI express?

My reply: It's PCI-express, they haven't made regular PCI cards for the past several years.

Nate: All I wanted was an answer, not a silly attempt to make me sound foolish.

---

Was I being a jerk? I'm kinda scratching my head here...

That was incredibly rude of you. Send him a cookie and sorry note in the post.

they've made millions of PCI cards the past few years and continue to make them; I have a Linksys PCI wireless card right here :) (was that rude?)

I don't think it was rude, just unnecessary - a simple "it's PCI-Express" would've sufficed

Well answer this:

Why didn't you just say it was PCI-E instead of adding in that quip about the PCI cards?

Nate's definitely got some sand though.

I imagine your ad said PCI, not PCI Express? I don't know if that particular video card comes in a PCI variety, but obviously PCI video cards are still made. So make your ad more clear, and don't say things that you don't know to be true.

Yeah, you're probably right. I was thinking in the context of video cards...the last PCI one I remember was like the FX5700

No. People should know what they are buying.. It's like asking if core 2 quad extreme uses slot A socket...

To counter that, he could've been making sure it was a 7800GTX or to see if there was a competent seller. If the OP had come back and said it was a PCI card, the buyer would've known to avoid at all costs.

I'm going to just send him this message and be done with it:

Umm...I didn't mean to offend you. Sorry...

don't worry about it
post it on FS/T here and Craigslist - there's plenty of buyers out there

if he was offended so what; you're not emailing him for a date just selling him a video card

Presumably the OP said it was a PCI card in the item description. If he hadn't specified, the guy would have asked if it was AGP or PCI Express. But he asked if it was PCI or PCI Express, so that means the OP probably called it a PCI card, which would have confused the guy. So he asked. PCI is not short for PCI Express. Looks like the OP talked himself out of a sale.

Or this guy ?Nate? was confused and thought there might be a PCI variant of this card, and thought better to ask before committing to an online purchase?

Actually, I didn't say anything about it being PCI in the description. I (erroneously, apparently) assumed that someone smart enough to install a video card know that they don't make 7800GTX cards in AGP or standard PCI.

It's not rude at all. Now he knows better.

Maybe it's just me, but I appreciate being corrected when I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about unless they're being condescending.

There no such thing as body language or tone of voice on the Internets. So I guess he just perceived me as being douchebagish, regardless of my intent.
