Was considering a Nexus 5X for my GF, what should I buy instead?

I'm looking to replace my girlfriends Galaxy 4 cell phone. We bought her son a Galaxy 5 refurb for $125 a few months back (right after they announced that it would not get the next version of Android OS). She likes my Nexus 5X (H790) and I still love my phone (IOW: I'm not giving her mine and buying something else). Lately I've been hearing about problems with the 5X after the Nougat update, so I'm considering other phones (besides, I can't find a refurbished 5X for less than $300 and can't find a new one for less than $380 (must be H790, not H791)).

So, I figured I'd ask here. Perhaps there will be some sales coming up now that the holiday buying season has passed?

Thanks for the suggestion. While that is a good deal, we are both pretty comfortable with something not the latest and perhaps under $300. Personally, after tasting clean Android, I really would not want to go back to a Samsung. I wouldn't have a big problem rooting it if I bought it for me. But, I'm pretty positive, she wouldn't want to 'tweak' it anytime soon.

I hear you i got a Moto X Pure edition and while it is not perfect i prefer it over the touchwiz interface even though i would not say one is better, just different.

I love my Nextbit Robin. They may be coming out with a new model - their website has no stock, and Amazon is clearing them out for $150 to $160. IMO - great phone, and a real bargain for the $$$.
