Was buying an 8800GTS 320mb a good investment?

My system is in my sig.

Was it worth it? I keep looking through these threads bashing the 320mb version as slow and handicapped. I thought it was a killer card. I couldn't resist NEW at $79.99.

The games i play are HL and Source based games. These include HL2, EP1, EP2, CS, CS:S, DOD, DOD:S, Portal, TF2.

I also play TrackMania Nations, and soon to be Crysis, Supreme Commanded and another good RTS i might find over the course of the next year.

All of which at 1280x1024.

Any opinions?

In my gaming rig, I'm using a XFX Geforce 8800GTS 320mb O/Ced to 674/1503/1003 and it maxes just about everything. I bought it originally for around $279, so I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy it for $80 :)

It was an excellent find. A great card still with plenty of horsepower. You won't find a better card for that price anywhere.

Also, will i be able to use both DVI ports AND Svideo out simulaneously? or will i still have to use my 5500 for the 3rd monitor?

$80, good deal. 1280x1024, can easily be handled with that. If you needed to do 1650x1050 or something like that, I would say that the card would struggle for Crysis. With Supreme Commander you are CPU limited anyway, so the card is fine for that setup. Again, $80 is very hard to beat.

As for both DVI and SVideo, well, I am not sure about that. I think the SVideo outputs the same screen as the primary DVI and doesn't act as a separate display, but I could be wrong.

Pretty freaking great for that price, and for your target resolution. It will own the games you listed (except the barrel of molasses that is Crysis).

Only other thing you could have done was buy the 8800gs for around the same price(it is a little faster/runs cooler/more efficient)

Where did you find get it for $80 new? Please don't say it's an American E-tailer. I'm Canadian.

8800GTS 320MB is a very good investment. You could overclock your CPU so there's less of a CPU limit in some of the games, but overall, it's a steal. You shouldn't have to update your rig for another couple of years if all you do is play games and don't mind turning down the quality a bit while staying at 1280X1024.

I wish i could overclock my cpu. That would be amazing. Too bad its a compaq. The motherboard is said to be unlockable.

I used Thisthis to download a bios, but i couldnt get it to work :-/

Btw everyone, my 3dmark06 score went accordingly

Sapphire x1650 512mb DDR2 128-bit: 1964

Zotac 8800GTS 320mb 320-bit GDDR3: 7361

I was shocked. I dont overclock at all. This score is better than some people with AM2 5000+ to 6000+ with 8800GTS 320/640's.

Hopefully this will stave off any upgrades that might lure me into spending more money.
