Profit Rises 64% at Berkshire Hathaway

Berkshire Hathaway, the company controlled by Warren E. Buffett, said yesterday that its third-quarter profit rose 64 percent, helped by investment gains, including the sale of a stake in PetroChina.

I wonder what the hell will happen with the price of the stock, they announced after the market closed on Friday...

BRK.A is $132,500/share...

And I'm a gonna go to the shareholder's meeting this spring...

One, I could own more, but i like trading too much.

I just joined the Motley Fools Million Dollar Portfolio (a paid service), the goal is to turn a million dollars into a billion. My scale is a bit smaller, $100K into a million.

I thought you just lost your job & your internet service, was kind of looking forward to your absence, anything I can do to speed up your departure Dave?

Don't give me that. Your 1 share is almost worth what my dad takes home in 3 years of work. :(

Ok, the truth is I'm posting using a 32" TV as a monitor, have a $2K hairless cat on my lap, and the grill is warming up for my ribeye for lunch.

There's 2 big tricks to saving $...

Buy a house you can easily afford & buy used cars.

(well really 3, avoid Rossman's posts near payday)...

Pliable, how much are the dividends on that share?

No dividends, he just grows the value of the company, no splits either...

There's some speculation MSFT is going to do that too, if you can afford 100 shares, it might be a very interesting purchase...

He lost it & all of his savings, just lost his job too.

Honestly I don't want harm to befall another human being, I just want him to stop posting...

Pliablemoose,

Aren't you the one who was/is trading a lot, buying puts & calls near earnings announcements?

I'd verify that except Search won't work for me in Off Topic, don't know why.

Warren Buffett practices the exact opposite of the active trading you are/were doing.

WB's shop is too expensive to buy into now.

Does anyone know of any other, smaller funds practicing WB's philosophy and techniques?

edit: spelling fix

I've heard Alleghany described as a possible up-and-coming BRK. Haven't done any research on it.

I don't do options, I'm not smart enough :D

Nothing wrong with mixing up some active trading with a massive put on the market. It's actually worked out very well, when my more active trading doesn't work (market goes down) BRK either keeps it's value or increases in value, when the market goes up, I've got the stuff that goes up quickly covered with a trailing stop, and BRK doesn't do anything.

It's like having a whale in the aquarium, watching the frenzied swimming of the little fish and the whale making slow but steady progress.

For instance today,

My holdings:

BRK.A up $500 (.38%)
CSCO up $.57 (1.75%)
BIDU up 7.88 (1.93%)
DLBY up $.73 (1.78%)
GME up $45 (.8%)

CSCO is a proven performer, due to announce earnings on Weds, I'm betting they'll do pretty well.

BIDU is just insane, I'm up 26% in 3 weeks have it covered with a trailing stop of 10%, & hoping it touches $500/share.

DLB is a long term investment, I'll keep it for the forseeable future

GME is a retail play, if I can get 10% out of it, it's gone...

Class B shares are for people living in the Ghetto.

Your're either Class A at 132k a pop, or you're some poor gettozin.
