moral of the story sounds like to not buy extended warranties.

That's the moral of every story. Extended warranties are for profit, not for customer convenience.

That being said, since OP already owns the warranty, he needs to read it very carefully to determine his rights in this situation. It's not much of a contract if the company can simply excuse themselves from it on a whim and pay him off with something less than he's entitled to. If the contract is written in a way that allows them to escape with a cash pay-out, then that goes back to the moral of the story. If they're not expressly allowed to do something like that then I would hold their feet to the fire and demand repair or FULL replacement.

How about option D : Go to a used appliance store. Buy a dishwasher in good shape that has been serviced for about $200. Profit. And, stop wasting money on extended warranties.

I second this. In the last 20 years, I've bought all my appliances used and have had very good luck.

They will point you to the units they feel is best for your budget. Gadgets and price.$50 that will lady.up to a year, to the $200 that gives you 5 years. May have a scratch or two, hit it with touch up

First make sure that they are giving you 75% of the NEW cost, and not 75% of the replacement cost. Because if it is replacement cost you might get a check in the mail for something like $50. The 75% of the cost to buy a 7 year old model of your dishwasher.

Sounds like bullshit to me. Cost of repair isn't your problem if they enter into a service agreement. I'd be pissed if they tried to offer 75% too. You should be requesting full replacement value AND the remaining contract duration applied to the new unit. I agree that they should be able to repair OR replace (with an equivalent unit) at their discretion, but that doesn't dismiss them of their remaining contract term.

From my experience and others I know, when it comes to extended warranties and getting things fixed. The company either fixes it or you get all the cash back (minus the extended warranty) that you paid for the product to use towards getting a new one. Sounds like they are scamming you.

As per consumer report, Bosch has the best reliability... looks like I will have to pay upwards of $800 for one of those puppies...

Bosch lol

Have some friends who have had nothing but trouble with theirs.

Also, read your warranty terms.

Frankly I find paying hundreds of dollars for extended warranties to be foolish.

I have had front panel buttons on both my dish washer and oven stop working. In both cases, the repairman basicly told us that we'd be better off buying replacements instead of paying for the replacement parts and labor.

But, in both cases, I found that the problems were caused by loss of electrical contact where the ribbon cable from the front panel plugged into the controller board. It's become part of my normal routine to clean the contacts and reseat the ribbon cables every six months or so when the buttons fail. Crappy design, but both are otherwise quite adequate.

Maybe it's worth a try?

Last I had checked the extended warranties on a lot of appliances like this only give a certain percentage of the products cost as your item does depreciate over time so he is getting what he paid for by buying the warranty.

OP would have to check it out but it's nothing new.

Sounds like a breach of contract unless they stipulated some kind of clause saying if repairs > new unit then they can back out/terminate.

This is why I don't bother with extended warranties unless it is dirt cheap and even then you are usually better off just saving that money towards a new unit because it will be cheaper to run and potentially more reliable with less wear and tear.

The other issue I see is that the older repair was 6 months ago. I have just had a washing machine repaired under warranty and the replacement parts are under a new 12 month warranty (just the parts that were replaced mind, the rest is still under the normal manufacturer warranty). Check the receipts for the original repair just in case they gave you a warranty/guarantee for those parts.

If you have cashed the check already, chances are there is some fine print somewhere that by doing so you have accepted their "settlement offer" and have no real recourse. Could be wrong, but don't be surprised if they get you this way.

That said, I would not be satisfied with the refund. They are not even refunding you the entire amount of your extended warranty, which turned out to be worthless anyway!
