He missed the funeral which took place at 9 a.m. but he surely was able to make it to gathering after the funeral for friends and family...

He surely was caught between a rock and a hard place... although he probably would have faced (a little bit) less criticism if he had ditched the charity event. Although I'm sure Leonard Nimoy would have wanted him to make that commitment.

In his younger days Mr. Shatner's antics probably did contributed to certain views about his not being able to make the funeral... however, I do think that the criticisms are harsh.

That does capture much of the sorrow for sci-fi fans this weekend...
