WARNING! WHAT NOT TO DO WITH GAMEBOY ADVANCED!

I was going to get one but its graphics are along the lines of SNES. I know that its very small but I'd really hoped that Nintendo could have done better. Good games or not (they will be good), after playing an up to date console/PC I just can't go back to those graphics.

I would have a field day ranting here but I have to go to work in 10 minutes. You're lucky 😉

But its true. When the original Gameboy came out although it was black and white its graphics were not THAT much worse than Nintendo's then-current Console. Given the ever accelerating pace of technology I'm surprised that the Advance has graphics along the lines of a decade-old (SNES) system. Whats it running, probably 5-10 mhz? I know it has to be inexpensive and small and low on power but I'm surprised its not got more power...I don't expect an N64 in my hand, but come on!

Yes we're lucky we don't have to read your post.

The current games look like snes games, but they'll get better. I don't think they'll look as good as current psx games, but maybe the ones from 95-96.

GBA would be much faster than 11mhz. It uses an ARM7, and that is rated at 60 or 80mhz I think

as old gameboy has shown, its not the hardware, but its the game. I sure spent lot of time on old Final Fantasy and LoLo series then anything today. (well maybe CS and SC doesnt count hehe, but like i said CS and SC doesnt use the latest tech on PC its fun games thats all (by the way its Counter-strike and StarCraft))

Well all the games I've seen so far look like what I used to play when i was 12 years old! I know that first-gen games don't look that good but I don't think its going to look all that great in the future either 🙁

As posted by grifterspawn in the hot deals thread -

Gameboy 8-bit, B&W display only
Gamegear 8-bit, color display
Gameboy Color 8-bit, color display
Sega Nomad 16-bit, basically a hand held sega genesis
Gameboy Advance 32-bit, also has an actual gameboy color cpu embedded onto the PCB for FULL backwards compatibility with all gameboy

A.)The Gameboy Advance has a 16 MHz 32-bit proceessor.
B.)The GBA can do the N64 game Yoshi's Story, surpassing the SNES's 2D capabilities.
C.)The GBA doesn't have a 3D processor (and if it did, what quality 3D would you expect for $100)?
D.)Despite this, there is a Doom port in the works and many Doom-esque games.
E.)There are also games with Starfox-like graphics in the works.
F.)All this without an integrated video put into the cart like Super FX.

Why the handheld market has not evolved as the console is that the parts are simply not available. The laptop market has just gotten decent quality video with the Geforce 2 Go. It would be very hard to find a cheap and capable 3D video chip for something even smaller. Therefore it is unrealistic to expect a portable PSX. And graphics to most people only become important when they interfere with how the game is played. You can watch touched-up Xbox videos, I'll be playing F-Zero Advance, thank you.

Fight ignorance-Have fun.

I have two young boys that will be getting these games. Finally I may be willing to spend some time with the Advance..

ARMs game boy advance blurb

Powered by an ARM7? processor, the new Game Boy Advance decisively breaks the existing boundaries for handheld video game play, boosting performance by over 50 times and displaying more than 600 times as many on-screen colors as Game Boy Color. The screen size is increased by 50%, and picture resolution by 66%. It will enable previously impossible scaling, rotating and transparency effects.

sounds like there shoud be some eye candy compared to that silly litte game boy color on a Z80 😀
