Warning: Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3.0 "Comfort Edition"

Folks,

If you've been considering the Wireless Desktop 3.0 "Comfort Edition" (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=028), DON'T! At least not yet.

There's a definite problem with this board, and i'm not sure where the problem lies. Basically, if you're a gamer, this keyboard is completely unsuitable. While it IS comfortable (at least for a touch typist like me), any mouse movement seems to cancel any keypress you happen to be making at the time.

In other words, if you're holding down the W key to walk forward, ANY movement of the mouse cancels this keypress and stops you dead in your tracks.

I'm still poking around trying to search for a workaround, but so far the only thing i've come up with is that "Microsoft doesn't plan on fixing this bug" (at least that's what I read on a Newegg review).

If anyone comes across a "fix" for this, please let me know. I'd love to keep this board, it's really got a great layout (at least I think so).

For a keyboard? Blah. No problem there.

And if you have an MX1000, you know that isn't true 🙂

Anyway, I doubt it has anything to do with "wireless" technology. I think it's specific to this MS stuff.

Can't press a key and move the mouse at the same time?
Lovely

What happens when you don't have a driver installed?

I'm asking if the same thing happens when no drivers are installed.
Meaning the keyboard and mouse will work with just the basic Microsoft keyboard, mouse drivers.

I have the 2.0 no problems here. I love it because I have my keyboard in the tray for typing then on the desk for COD:UO and such.

yeah, but non-ergonomic keyboards suck if you know how to type...

The Wireless Desktop Pro & 3.0 Comfort edition have the best layouts these days. I have the wired "Multimedia" edition which does the job. But i'd really like the Wireless comfort edition if it WORKED THE WAY I EXPECTED IT TO! 🙂

MX1000=PRESICE FRAG!

I have the keyboard and... IT IS ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!

i am a gamer... and have run a few tests using PassMark Keyboard test...

just one of the failures... holding up and right on direction pad the keyboard will not respond to key presses on first row of letters (only second or third rows)

holding up and left will then make the keyboard not respond to key presses in second row of letters (will respond to first and third rows)

Holding up key and randomly press other keys on keyboard will eventually see up key depress though it is still held down...

I can't believe this is intentional and they won't fix it! And i was seriously thinking on picking up this keyboard too.

I hereby call for a wired version of this set!

(OK, I have zero need for a wireless set, but a wired version of this one would be outstanding.)
