Since this appears to be a WinMe problem, why not blame MS ?

It's not an issue with other OS at all.

MSNY... McAfee has a history with issues on all WinX systems, while not everyone has these problems with McAfee (on WinX) there is a pattern... I am willing to bet McAfee will now update it's software to make it more compatible with WinMe. This problem came to the surface because Microsoft found a way in WinMe that improves the efficiency of it's ability to defrag. To me, this sounds like "a good problem." :)

Norton and all other of the same type of programs out there do not share the same "common" issues.

Microsoft is not to blame if a particular software causes issues to a new O/S like WinMe. The 3rd party programmers design software to work with operating systems, not the other way around.... for the most part :)

jsbush... While I have had only a few minor issues with WinMe, your right... it does desperately need a good patch! However, many of the complaints I read/hear about WinMe are avoidable through proper diagnosis.
