I've solved a problem with my Iwill SideRAID 100 (HPT 370) RAID controller and WinXP. (sys specs in my sig)

When using XP's native drivers, OR the latest drivers from Highpoint-tech.com, my RAID controller would play havok with the system when the HDDs were being accessed. My mouse would stutter and my sound would skip.

After trouble shooting both the sound AND the mouse, I made the connection that the problems only occured during HDD activity.

I went to the Iwill site and D/Led their latest driver, and it worked. My sound and mouse woes have diappeared.

Just a heads up for you guys out there that might be screaming at your sound card, when it's really your Iwill SideRAID 100 card causing the problems in XP.

BTW, this is on an Asus P4T-E mobo (i850) so that might be it instead of XP, but I'm not sure which combination is the cause. What I am sure of is that the only drivers that run this card well on my set-up are those from Iwill's site. (v2.0.1019)

[edit] I searched and searched the net for anyone else with my specific problem, but found no one linking sound skipping/stuttering and mouse jitters to the RAID card. So I'm posting this in hopes that someone will find it.

While we're at it... for the Promise users out there - be careful of any new Promise drivers available through Windows Update. By the version number, they seemed to be appropriate for my onboard FastTrak Lite (on the Dragon+), but they were wrong enough to lock me out of Windows until I restored the previous configuration. Guess Windows Update doesn't do such a hot job of detecting hardware. I'll just wait for the Soyo release next time.
