Warning for those thinking of getting a Tuniq 120 Tower

I haven't turned it on to see how it performs- but this is a serious warning about the instlallation. The installation is so difficult that for my board it was impossible to get the tensions springs on, I don't mean it was hard to get them on and I gave up- I mean it was physically impossible, I stopped trying after 2 hours because it was making no progress- I hope it doesn't affect my temps but just a warning, it's a real bitch to install

Must be that board...........had one but got rid of it. Very little problems with my Asus board and the cooling is the best I've seen.

I had to use different mounting screws to get it mount properly on the DFI. I used longer ones than the ones supplied. Additionally I had to use flat washers because my screw was a bit too long. I also used the springs provided in the box. I would recommend you buy a steel backplate for this HS. I initially used the yellow plastic backplate, but I didn't feel comfortable with it. This HS is so f'ing huge it bowed my mobo after I mounted it. The DFI plastic mounting plate didn't hold the HS that well. When I turned my case upright (mobo facing vertically) temps would climb up a few degrees. A steel backplate and some lapping of the HS base fixed that problem. The cooling is remarkable. My overclocked Opteron 165 @2600mhz with 1.54 V reaches max 40C under two instances of SP95.

The HS is a PITA to mount. It required me to remove my mobo every time I remounted. I have a pretty spacious case, but it was easier for me to remove the mobo than it was to mount in the case.

The cooling for the Tuniq Tower does live up to what all the glowing reviews say, but is not for the timid. It required a lot of trial and error on my part. Of course those with mobos that already have a steel backplate probably will not have this problem.

best cooling ever seen......got rid of it?

Went water cooling?

I also have the Tuniq 120.....didn`t perform as well as my XP 120 or my Zalman 9500..

Another suggestion would be sonic tower, that is a great cooler and u dont have to do anything to secure it, forget about thermal takes instructions, unscreew the bolts on the retension thing, mount the heatsink on top, and use the special braket as well as the normal screews to screew it in, done, dont have to worry about anything as the size is just right for the best contact.

But that Tuniq 120 Tower, cooler looks very simmilar to sonic tower (sorta 😛), if only u could put the fan in the middle of the sonic tower without modding.

Actually, it was the board the OP had that I got rid of. 😉

I replaced an XP 120 with the second Tuniq Tower I bought.....mainly because the Tuniq Tower was outperforming the XP 120 I had and I'd take a Tuniq Tower over a 9500 any day.

As for installing it..it must be the board (DFI) because I had no problems installing it on Asus boards whatsoever.

Also, the "Sonic Tower" is a knock off on the Tuniq Tower as the Tuniq Tower was actually designed and out first.😉

EDIT: Little late but thanks Bob........😉

U serious? O well u learn something new everyday 😛
But if the tuniq tower is anywhere as good as the sonic tower (which i heard that the tuniq tower is better) then its one darn good heatsink. My sonic tower is brilliant, and thats all i have to say about it. My boss got a 9500 and its alright but the fan is on the noisy side fully on, with the sonic tower and slow 120cm fan can do the job.
