WARNING: DONT GET DIRECT X 8 AND DET 7.17 DRIVER

I haven't had any problems with the 7.17s. But I don't play many games anymore. I just run the few benchmarks on my computer. Didn't notice a loss in frames in QIII.
 
I'm currently running Det 5.16 drivers on Win98se. I have a TNT 2 ULTRA. It runs very stable all the time. Will I see a big improvement in UT by upgrading to 7.17 drivers?

Guy`s just a quick input on DirectX8 on WIN98 & 6.31 DETONATOR Drivers they work ok on my Via board(MSI K7T PRO ) so if you are still undecided ,about trying with similiar drivers to mine you will be ok ,I will try benchmarking later since I will have to reinstall 3DMARK2000 program first.

yeah, i installed both on my asus 7700, and it crapped me over, so I just went back to 6.35 and all was fine.

Thanx for the warning. Except, being someone who like to try things as soon as they come out I've experienced all sorts of problems with DX8 and Det 7.17.

I done a totally new install of everything to get the stability back. Just posted a link to a DirectX 8 uninstaller....wish I'd known about this b4 the total re-installation of WinME etc... :frown:

i kept hearing about the direct x 8 uninstaller is not a good idea to go
just it better to format the hardrive..
and do i clean install?
 
What kind of problems are people getting? I've had no problems whatsoever. Except for one weird thing. When I go to Addition GeForce 2 MX Properties and click on the Overlay Color Control tab, my computer resets. Weird eh?
 
there's nothing wrong with DX8

nvidia's drivers just don't work well with it. the fault isn't with DX8, however.

I generally don't think its a good idea to switch DirrectX software unless the driver documentation specifically says the driver/device is optimised to work with Dx8.

What? So your big bad GeForce2 and 933 CuMine can't beat my old Katmai/TNT now? 😀 Seriously... its not such a big deal. Just reinstall the old software and your system should go back to its usual speedy self.
 
Really??? Ouch. Maybe we need a 3rd opinion. Ask in the Operating SYstems forum if there's a way to nuke Dx8 w 'out reinstalling windows

first time i used a program to uninstall direct x 8

that did work that WELL
cuz direct x 8 changed the structure of os by changing the regesitry =x

so i formated the hardrive..

that is the BEST WAY of doing it
