It does work, actually. The mentos acts as a catalyst, accelerating the rate of decay of the carbonic acid, resulting in MASSIVE gas release. Dont' believe it? Go try it. It's not dangerous, so long as you don't put the cap back on (and the reaction accelerates at such a ridiculous rate that you've got to be superman to get it back on) - and just one mentos is enough to demonstrate it, without being too messy.
Your sarcasm meter must be broken. I claimed the video disprovess it when the video shows a girl EXPLODING from drinking it, apparently proving the myth.
