We need your help!

Thank you for your online order, however, we were not able to obtain
authorization on your credit card (AmEx) for this purchase. Please
understand that this may happen for several reasons including billing
address discrepancies, credit card information discrepancies, or a daily
limit on a debit card. Please contact your issuing bank to resolve this
issue, since these details are not shared with Dell. Once you have contacted
your bank, reply to me by return email.

If you are paying with a debit card, please respond to this email with the
daily spending limit. We can run your card up to 3 consecutive days to
obtain the full amount of your purchase. Every debit card has a daily limit.
It can be from 200.00 to 5000.00. Please verify the daily limit before
contacting either me or the online team.

We will need to verify the credit card information before re-processing the
order;

Credit Card Number:
Type of card:
Name as it appears on the Card:
Billing address:
Expiration Date:
**Customer ID Number :

When replying by email, please include all the requested information.

** If you require assistance with your online order, other than payment
issues, please call our sales department at 877-284-3355 or click on this
link:

**The Customer ID for Master Card and Visa can be found on the back of the
card, in the signature strip - it is the last 3 numbers. If it illegible
please let me know. The American Express Customer ID is printed on the front
of the card above the credit card number.

There's a couple things very strange about this scam, you might want to call Dell.

First of all, how did they know you ordered a laptop from Dell?

Second of all, how did they know what kind of CC you used? Or wasn't it an amex card you used to place the order?

Edit: That 888 number isn't listed on Dell.com under Contact either.

If thats your order number, I'm guessing one of two things:

1: Dell got hacked, but the CC info was stored somewhere they couldn't break into, so they stole a customer list and spammed out trying to get the customer's CC numbers.

2: This is actually a legit email about your order. I can't seem to do a whois lookup on dell.com to check and see if the registrant info is the same for both domains, so we can't check that way.

The order has probally been canceled. Just call and find out if they sent the email before reporting a scam. Its not a scam. I've see emails like this from Dell before. No don't email your cc info. Just call em.

That has happened to me before. I refused to reply with info in an email, so I just called. I don't know why they would be so stupid as to expose their unwitting customers like that.

This happened to me almost 2 years ago. I see Dell has not improved this process in all that time.

No scam.

regarldess of it being semi-legitimate from dell perhaps

the dellcustomerservice website does not exist, and isnt reg'ed by dell

and of all companies i'd expect dell to not have their CS's ask via e-mail for CC info, COMPLETE CC info

So I still believe it is some scam/fraud.

I agree with you Josh and I also must say that I don't think this post should be locked quite yet. This may look like many emails that you people have received from Dell, but that's the point. It's how hackers work. They want to fool you anyway they can...sometimes even by putting legit information to lead you into their trap. The first obvious clue that this is not for real is the website www.dellcustomerservice.com. Why in the world would that be in the email? The hacker screwed up there. Second, Dell has never asked me for my CC in an email like that. Definately call them and let them know exactly what the email said. Then get back w/ us and let us know what they say. After all is said and done (and if it turns out to be a legit email) then this post should be deleted. However, I still think it looks very suspicious.

I agree. I've received emails from dell becuase of a typo in the CC info, and they look nothing like that

they always start out with thanking you, and saying that there was ap roblem in auth and asking you to call to verify

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but i thought scam the moment I saw personal pronoun usage, such as "me". Dell customer service doesn't do this, and instead always uses "contact dell customer support, dell sales, etc". It's more professional.
