Warning about X99 and Windows 10

Just thought I'd warn everyone against installing Windows 10 on X99 motherboards.

Heed the warning especially if you have an intel gigabit nic (like 217 or 218, etc) as the driver does not load properly. You'll see it working properly in device manager but you will forever have a "discconnected" network icon no matter what. Some reported that a cold boot will get it working but it did not in my case so I reverted back to 8.1

The interesting thing to note is that in W10 it did not install the WAN miniport drivers and I couldn't for the life of me get it to work manually.

I'm on Win10 and everything is running fine on my end. I have an I218-V LAN as well. Mobo is Asrock x99m-killer (old one).

Did you do a clean install or upgrade? After reverting my system is hosed because of newer w10 rst drivers that seemed to have been left behind. Now I have to do a refresh :/

I upgraded from 8.1 and it seems like that's the common thread

Not sure if I will try again after this...

I upgraded my x99 system from 8.1 to 10, no issues with the LAN. In fact everything went smoothly with the exception that DTS connect is currently broken in Win10. Reverting back to 8.1 also went smoothly. Not sure what your issue was.

RVE upgraded from 8.1 pro and zero issues. I'll be doing a clean install at some point, so we'll see how that goes, but everything, even some older HW is running fine.

rolling back completely hosed my system despite my best efforts to put the original .sys files back in for 8.1

clean installed W10 and everything works. thanks Microsoft!

I have the 217 and 210 series on my Z97 board with no issues on Win 10. Both work as advertised, though it was a clean install.

No issues for me upgrading from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro.

Gigabyte X99-UD5 WIFI with Intel I218-V NIC here in brand new build and installed Win8 Pro, then loaded drivers, then brought down Win10 and haven't had any problem with the NIC. I'm typing from it right this moment, so I'm guessing I'm connected. 😵

I was having issues with some of my USB peripherals not functioning after having my system powered up for several hours. Notably my USB DAC and Microphone. I updated my chipset drivers with the latest ones from the Asus website and it fixed the issue for me.

They have new drivers for Win 10 for the X99 chipset and most of the onboard stuff like NIC, BT etc.
