I know this isnt hot, but thought you might want to know since we buy a lot of stuff from them. Tigerdirect has been selling our CC numbers to a long distance company AMR long distance. Check your CC statements for the charge. I'll never buy anything from them again.

Thanks for the heads up. Your activism had the right effect. :)

Yeah, it'd be good to know more about this. I've only ordered once, but if true, it'll be the last.

its an "opt in/opt out" thing but u dont know it directly. when u order something and they offer u a free phone card, if u accept the "free" phone card the hidden details in invisible tiny text are that the phone card is free for 15 days and if u dont cancel within 15 days they will charge u $49.95 a month for the card. i was charged $60+ though and i had to dispute it. i ended up having to cancel the credit card after some other phony (no pun intended) charges, which i beleive is do to either newegg or buy.com being hacked or most likely when tiger sold out my CC before i realized the "fine print"

tiger has always been shady, nuthin new

thing is i never used any free phone card, and on top of that i opted out of the "free card" because i know better than to take "free stuff" like those

tigerdirect has always been scammy...
and any supposed CEO of a company that sends out spam about how he got deals...
stories about his inventory acquisitions...as adverts for products he is selling, means
something fishy(lies). a chummy, friendly, 'i'm on your side' ceo is cause for concern. too
much of a snake-oil salesman...not to be confused with the REAL snake-oil salesmen in
chinatown etc...

crap, and I just bought something from them. I hope I don't get this stupid charge (I don't think they asked me if I wanted a free phone card or whatever though).

Alchemist is absolutely right. I placed an order with Tiger Direct in April and they gave my CC# to US Phone. I didn't accept any offer but they gave them my info anyway. I am still pissed. If you do not take action to terminate the LD service, they bill you for $49.95/mo whether you use any service or not.

In my opinion this definitely constitutes fraud and I would discourage anyone from doing business with Tiger Direct.

The email address for their director of e-commerce is Lonny Paul. Everyone who has ever ordered from them ought to express their opinion about their practices to him.:|

Credit card fraud is a federal offense. Whether the offense was by stealing or trickery, all credit card companies are required to insure all funds lent to their clients. Just talk to your credit card company, they are required to refund disputed charges. If they have a problem they will investigate but if its a small amount they wont. Bank debit cards will do the same. It just sucks b/c with a credit card it isn?t your money they frauded, with a bank card it is.

Hmm... I didn't get hit with this and I ordered a DLINK WAP from them a while ago (2mo's maybe). I do recall being asked about the free crap, and I rejected it. I'll keep an eye on my statements, but, so far so good. No erroneous charges. Overall it was a positive experience.

I get tons of spam, so I can't vouch for whether or not Tiger Direct is worse than any other website that takes your email address. It all goes to my spam account and I just check all and delete every once in a while. (Except when go.com corrupts my mail file and locks me out for 2 weeks--that sucked!).

Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, same thing happened to me. I was charged $61.02 after I ordered in tigerdirect. I had to dispute with my credit card company to get the money back.

Note to all this does not apply to Debit cards even if it says Visa on the front. NEVER NEVER NEVER use your Debit card online for anything period. You have no protection and if they get into your checking account getting your money back will be a bit*h at best...

Simply not true, I have disputed charges on my debit card and had no problem, once for a merchant I returned merchandise to, and another time when some bimbo in Idaho tried to charge $2800.00 , I disputed and they immediately credited my account.

If anyone is concerned about their debit cards fraud protection they should call their bank and get it straight from the horses mouth.

You're right EXman, the same Credit Card fraud protection does not apply to Debit Cards but your bank is required to protect your funds held by them. If money is taken from your bank account fraudulently, whether its directly from your bank account, a check or from your debit card, your bank is required to return the money back to you. If it is over a certain amount, the bank may investigate the dispute but for $50 they will just give you back the money. Certainly if your money is held by a small obscure bank they may be a bit stiff about account abuse but a *major* bank wont flinch.
