Warmish: Canon A70 $299@Staples + free stuff - coupon = ???

If you just browse through Staples regular directory for Digital Cameras and click on the 3 megapixel cameras link they don't list the A70. In fact I haven't seen it in any of our local stores yet.

BUT if you type in 'A70' in the search area it comes up and at only $299 - that's $50 less than most other online and B&M retailers, although you can get it for roughly that price from some Internet wholesalers.

Throw in a coupon and you can drop the price to a better level. I had my own $20 off coupon and TRIED to get some $30 or $40 off coupons from coupon sites to work, but was unsuccessful. Maybe you guys have access to some or can have better luck. However, I was able to find a coupon that got me a free cheapo 5" b/w TV and a duffel bag that you can use in conjunction with a $-off coupon.

With tax, my total came out to just a tad over $300 for the A70, the TV and the duffel bag.

Not flaming hot like the Dell deal was (although it would be closer with a $40 off coupon), but I ordered it yesterday and it's already here today. Plus, since Staples has one of the best return policies I can easily return it if the A70's supposed 'softness' issue really is that noticeable. I'm going to break it in by taking a lot of photos at a golf tournament this weekend. That should be a good testing ground.

if there is a 50 off 300 or 40 off 200, this is a hot deal. if you missed the dell deal yesterday, this is the exact same deal. well you have to pay for tax on this one.

on plus side, you can return it to staples if something wrong.

good find. a70 is the best 3 mp out there.

I don't THINK Dell pricematches because that option had crossed my mind too.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the catalog and only had access to one of the $45 off coupons from Dell yesterday (as far as I could tell anyway.)

I ordered my A70 from Staples yesterday. It arrived about two hours ago. Love that overnight shipping.

Yeah it was pretty cool to be sitting there at my desk and have it delivered less than 18 hours after I'd ordered it. I took mine out on my lunch break to take a few shots at the gardens near our office. The 16MB card that comes with it doesn't go a long way. 😉

T H A N K S!

I was able to get the digicam, duffel bag, and b&w TV (plus labels sku#AVE33735) w/free ship for $271.72 🙂

I can definitely see where people are coming from on the 'softness' issue. When I got home today, I went into my front yard and took several pictures of my house (at various resolutions and compression settings) and also took a few shots from the exact same spot with my older Samsung Digimax 210SE at various settings.

I went inside, loaded the pictures onto my computer and was a little freaked out when I first pulled them up and the Samsung pictures actually looked to be a bit sharper at spots, although the coloring looked MUCH truer on the Canon shots. But that was just when I had them sized to fit my screen for easy viewing. When viewed at full-size you could tell there was a LOT more noise in the Samsung shots while the Canon shots suddenly looked far sharper with the color remaining true. And when I printed them out onto photo paper with my Epson 880 it was no contest with the Canon shots coming out very nice.

Granted, this was comparing the A70 against a previous generation camera from a brand not really known for great photography. I'd imagine up against a current generation Sony or Nikon with similar specs we would start to see the softness differences more pronounced - whether or not those differences would manifest themselves on a printout I don't know. I'm going to continue to mess around with the A70 for the next week or so just in case it's not living up to expectations - that's why I got it from Staples afterall. 😉

I was in my local Staples store the other day. They now stock the A70 and it was $349 in the store. If your local store doesn't have it yet, it should be soon. Thanks for the heads up on the option to buy it on-line for such a great price (before the coupons).

Well, I work at staples and 5 days ago saw the price discrepency so I chnaged the instore price to 299. Im gonna buy this camera with a coupon, but Im gonna wait till employee appreciation day which is like 2 weeks (anywhere between 10-25% off). Then I will get this baby!

Sign up for OM's newsletter and you'll get their ads on Friday. Also, Dell is 3 weeks+ I just checked with them today on the status of my order.

299 @ officemax this weekend with free 64mb cf card. slap on a coupon (50 off 250) plus lots of taxes

What a great deal! I thought I found a site for the Office Max coupons, however, the $50 off orders $250 or more had a bad link. Can you help point me in the right direction? How about the free 64mb cf card? I must have missed it this weekend in the Office Max ad. Is the coupon you used only usable for online shopping?

Thanks for the help!
