Warm: XP-120 $48 shipped from BestByteInc.com

Definitely not a hot deal considering its for a heatsink, but cheaper shipped price than most retailers have it listed for without shipping.

Linkage

As far as the company, I've ordered from them numerous times, as well as when they used to be bestbyte.net and haven't had a problem with em. Offer tons of shipping options, at pretty close to cost. If you're a real cheap ass you can get it parcel post for $48, I chose Priority mail for $48.56.

Cool deal! Ordered one. Also picked up an Intellimouse Explorer v4.0 mouse for $21. Reasonable shipping also. Not bad.

As a side note, Silentpcreview just did a review on the new Zalman 7700 (120mm fan version) and the XP-120 spanked it in most ways. The most significant difference was the noise output, the XP was significantly quieter:beer:

Thanks for the deal.

Nice info, I was originally planning to get the 7700-Cu, but decided to go with the XP-120 due to its weight. I'm feeling pretty good about the decision to go with the XP-120 now, just hope it fits on the Aopen AX4C Max I've got coming in. Thanks for the review.

I think I'm confused. Are you suppose to put a fan on the XP-120, or does the massive heatsink do all of the cooling you need?

It takes a 120mm fan, I guess you could possibly use it fanless on a really low end cool-running chip, but it wasn't meant to be a passive cooler.

Thanks. That's what I thought. What confused me was the SilentPC Review comment above, about how the XP-120 spanked the Zalman for quietness. Wouldn't it depend on the fan you use WITH the xp-120 as to how quiet it is?

Yes

Of course, the fan does matter - in fact, it's the only thing causing noise on a heatsink😉

I just ordered some 120mm Panaflow's from BGmicro last week for $4 each. They also have fan guards for $1 each. I'm not sure if these are the quietest Panaflow version but I'm planning on undervolting anyway so I'll just turn the fan down to make it quiet.

Those are the Medium speed Panaflo's. They'll be ok, but not "really" quiet. If you're not a hardcore silencer, I doubt they'll bother you and should suit your needs just fine.

After owning a few Thermalright heatsinks with panaflo fans, I tried out the 7700-Cu, and its quite nice, but in order to be silent you have to have it well under 6.5-7v. Its particularly nice though considering how easy it was to install, and its ability to be used on just about any socket (within the space considerations of course - I had to mod my zalman northbridge so that they weren't touching).

I'll definitely be picking up the XP-120 with a Nexus 120mm for my other system.

In general, a cooler is a combination of a heat sink and a fan.

To compare two heat sinks for quietness, may be misleading.
But, you can compare the efficiency of two heat sinks.

A heat sink that has better efficiency can cool better with the same fan (same noise but cooler). Alternatively, a heat sink that has better efficiency can cool the same with a lower-RPM fan (same temperature but quieter).

Has anyone used the XP-120 on XP-90 on the Asus A8N SLI motherboard? The thing looks so huge, I'm afraid to buy it...

Thanks for the link; I have seen that list before, but I have heard others mention some problems, so I just wanted to hear more opinions/results.

I think I'll buy it and hope for the best.

not to hijack the link, but what do you guys think is the best fan to pop on the xp-120?

i hear alot about panaflo, but im interested in overclocking so i want cfm 🙂

thanks

To a point. Wind resistance is a big factor in how much noise two equivalent fans can make.
One HS may make more of a whistling noise due to the fins.
