Warm: Weber grills 10% off at Sears B&M

I normally wouldn't bother with a measely 10% off deal, BUT....Weber grills never go on sale (I've been watching the prices for 2 years) and Weber dropped the price on their Genesis Gold B gas grill while improving them at the same time.

Last year, this grill was $650. This year, it's $550. You can now get 10% off at Sears (now we're down to $495). The Sears discount is a Customer Appreciation thing and lasts through Saturday (3/9/2) at the B&M. It's good on anything in the store. The Gold B must be special ordered as they don't carry them in stock. The literature says 3 to 4 week delivery but the salespunk said probably just a week.

The improvement on the Gold B & Gold C are upgrading the painted steel lid, the ceramic on steel grate & flavorizer bars, and the burner all to stainless steel. Also, the lid is double-walled to help keep the lid cooler which reduces discoloration and reduces heat loss.

I was initally going to get the Silver B ($450 - 10%), but with the price drop and upgrades on the 2002 model of Gold B, I couldn't resist. The C model adds a side burner for another $50. I've had one on my current grill and have never used it. Consumer Reports rates the Silver B as a Best Buy and Cooks Illustrated (the BEST cooking magazine) rates it as best as well after VERY exhaustive testing.

Once you order this grill (B&M, not online), you'll want some good grilling cookbooks. For that, go to New Books Cheapfor the BEST prices on new cookbooks. David Spriggs runs the operation and he's a first class guy. I recommend Licensed to Grill and Thrill of the Grill for fancier fare, or Gas Grill Gourmet for simpler fare. His is a two person operation, so if he gets hit hard with orders, there will be a wait. But it's worth it as his prices are about half of new. Be kind if he's slow, it's not an Amazon.com, instant order type operation. You email him with your request, he gets back to you in a day or two to let you know if he has it or can get it, then he arranges shipping/payment, etc. If you're in a hurry, go elsewhere.

Dang I'm getting hungry!!

EDIT: Amazon has the Genesis Gold B grill for $549 (normal price, though they say it's a $100 discount) with free shipping. A bit higher than $495 + tax, but an option if you don't have a Sears nearby, or if you miss the 10% off sale.

You're right, it is expensive, but it will last 5 times as long as my current grill, which cost half as much. Also, it's a much, much better performer than my current grill (Sunbeam Grillmaster).

If you're just doing burgers & weiners, a $97 cheapie at Home Depot is your best best. If you really get into grilling like I do, in the long run, this is a much better choice than a typical cheapie.

This is only a deal if a person is specificly looking for a Weber and wants the best price they can find. If you just buy stuff when it's dirt cheap, or like buying the cheapest of anything, this ain't for you.

how do you know it will last you 5 more times than your current one? you haven't even got the grill yet! 🙂

I've been watching for a sale on these grills too. Good find.

I used to have one with a side-burner and found it didn't get hot enough so I wouldn't get a side burner again.
Instead, a standalone high-BTU propane burner on legs is the way to go (for boiling water for corn, steamers, etc)

The Weber covers for these grills are absurdly expensive -- almost $100!

"Weber grills never go on sale."

You mean, Weber grills never go on sale ANYMORE...

Back in the day, son, before you were born, there was this place
called Value America. And Value America sold Weber at a sizable
discount every day. With free shipping and setup. And then they
had this sale where you could get Value Dollars with every purchase
equal to the value of the purchase. And those Value Dollars could
be used to slice the price of any other purchase in half. So that's
how I got the top-of-the-line all stainless steel
Weber Summit 450 grill for $1050, including
shipping and setup.

And before you say anything, yes this is a grill for people with
more money than sense, and even $1050 for a grill is ridiculous and
even though Consumer Reports top rated it, and even though it IS
a better grill than things like the Weber Genesis, is it that much
better?

Well, who's to say? But I like it...

If you have the wingspan/ecard visa you can get 5% off of your order at Amazon making it the better deal. Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for 2 years as well and it looks like it has paid off. Great post!!!

I'm enjoying my Simpson special edition Weber grill that amazon had marked down $80 a month ago. Gold series or something, POC model (plain old charcoal), but it certainly rocks.

I bought it, and 4 of the smaller $10 weber grills on amazon, got free shipping since it was $100 total, and $10 off.

The crazy thing is, Amazon only got $90 from me, but everything was shipped seperately. The large grill weighed 34lbs alone, and the smaller ones were 10lbs.

Just guessing, Amazon probably spent $60-90 on just UPS shipping costs alone. I wasnt surprised to see that they removed the large grill from their 'super shipper special' just 1 day after I made that order, so noone else could get free shipping on that huge thing.

$90 for five grills, all nice, with free shipping certainly was hot for me. I kept the large one and gave the other small ones away for gifts 🙂

Kwad...the Weber Summit for only $1050??? wow....suddenly I feel so inadequate.

BTW, After I ordered it, Sears said it should only take a week to get.

Dang I'm getting hungry! I'm trying to decide my first meal on it...A prime porterhoue, a salmon fillet, or a ball park frank.
