<< Just did this deal at OfficeMax.com on the phone. They took that 40 off 200 coupon from Staples but I had to add some paperclips (Paperclips: Item # 09015424 $.27) to get it to 200 bucks. Total came to 169.90 with tax... take the 80 rebate off of that and a total of 89.90 for a 80GB 7200 RPM drive. >>

Schmo... you are da man! I was thinking of calling in earlier but just never got around to it. Your post inspired me and now i got it for $172 w/ tax.
BTW if they tell u that they have it on backorder in you area, just do a store-pickup. My local store had 13. :D

You are the man! I have to agree to that.
Finally got around to calling Omax.com and ordering the hard drive/paperclips. No problem at all! CSR began to say something about filling out a PM form, I told I had the code for the staples coupon and it was a done deal. I thought it was gonna be a prob for a sec, but she decided to just go for the code.

My results:
169.90 total with tax
- 80.00 MIR
89.90

Gotta love that. Will be delivered on Tuesday.

I got mine for $88.75 after rebate...i got two of them

Microcenter PM's at $159.20...

$159.20 + $9.55 tax - $80 MIR = $88.75

If anyone wants a scan of the microcenter ad, i have it...unfortunately it expired yesterday (1/13/02), but it said that in big letters on the last page of the flyer...what OM dont know wont hurt them...i got it the on the 13th, so my deal was still good (i got 1 in store, 1 by calling OM.com's phone number)

if your local officemax does:
1) accept pricematching
2) accept competitors coupons
or
3) accept officemax.com coupons

then you have them call officemax.com (1-800-283-7674)

I talked to a sales rep last night when ordering one of the HD's...and he told me what i just told you...

He also told me you cant pm AND use a coupon (either an OM, OM.com OR a competitors), only one or the other...

:) Sweet deal: Staples- $40, $80 rebate= $80 + tax for me.Still $94 delivered is a great price for a decent 80 gig. Phone ordered, csr asked for staples coupon, emailed to her, no problem.Staples always accepts competitors coupons, and combined with the rebate, could not pass up. Thanks to you all that posted coupons, adds and links!

Hope everyone has better luck than me on getting in on this deal.

1) Yesterday, tried ordering via OfficeMax.com by phone, but kept getting catalog sales. Seemed that the online call center was closed.
2) Today, went to Mountain View, CA store. Willing to honor PM to MicroCenter, but HD was out-of-stock.
3) Went to Redwood City, CA store. Out-of-stock.
4) Called OfficeMax.com, attempted to order HD, but did not have item # and call center rep could not find the HD.
5) Called Union City, CA store, confirmed they were in stock. Had the HD held for me. When I arrived, they would not accept the Staples $40 off coupon. Really lame. Got the item number for the HD though (#2006-3681).
6) Called OfficeMax.com, but HD was backordered as others commented on.

Guess that this deal wasn't for me.

I called them up today, they made me *fax* them a copy of the staples $40 coupon, but besides that it went pretty smooth. Added the .27 paperclips also, good thing that people are also using that :D

I guess it is only backordered in some areas because my order went through after some people posted that it was backordered.

If they ask me to email them the 40 off 200 staples coupon do I just email them the little jpeg or the entire page? I was thinking if I email them the entire page won't they notice that everyones using the same url?

Someone please respond as I want to order this tonight.

Also I will need to add something cheap to push it over 200.00 right?

Qustion, when u bought it, do they print out the rebate receipt ?
I don't have mine print out..
cashier just give me the large OM rebate book....

dude, that's lame..
I got mine after 20 minutes wait for manager approval for staples coupon...
they seems a little bit unfamilar with the whole PM/coupon stuff...
$1 / G is a decent deal..
now hope the rebate will come....

Can't you do a local pickup at the Union City OM? It is a local thing as mine went through with no probs after others said was backordered.

First luck I have had, OM B&M accepted staples coupon without doublecheck or fuss, or even having to make the purchase over $200.
Had 1 ticket left but no HD there so delivering it to me tomorrow, supposedly. Rebate better come through or the deal freezes.

wolfram,

thanks for giving me the motivation to try again (also fustrated to the point that getting a good deal at the expense of OM would make my day). initially. i had tried a local pickup for the union city store, but the online call center wouldn't take the $40 rebate then. on my fourth try, i finally got a nice person from catalog sales to do a local pickup for me and take the $40 rebate. sigh. . .

just today, 20 people called the sales rep who helped me already. and we all got paper clips to break $200. ;)

btw, it appears the HDs stock for the online store and catalog sales is indeed based on where you live. i gave them three area codes to try 650/714/512 (Peninsula, CA/Orange County, CA/Austin,TX) and none of the delivery centers for those areas had any stock for the HDs.

it's definitely a great deal, and congrats on everyone who has been successful in getting it. i'm off to pick mine up right now. can't wait to see the manager of the union city store again.

thanks!

Went to OM last Thursday before the sale. I was able to get the last box., although box was a little crushed on one side. Took the 40 off 200. I guess I talked with the manager first, and he helped me, so he felt he was just continuing helping me. Then, since I wanted another one, I called another store and had them hold one for me. Then when I got off work on Sunday, I went in and the lady said they dont take the 40 off 200 because its an internet one. I didnt question it. So I went to the same store I bought the first one, and a another manger, says that they dont take ON LINE coupon matches. (Same store where they did 3 days earlier). But he said they would pricematch Microcenter, but they dont have any drives. So I said, look you dont have drives, and this 2nd OM store does, but they wont pricematch Microcenter. So this mgr, called a 3rd OM store, and they said they would sell me one for the PM price. 159, but that they dont normally do it. Got there, and he did, and since I had already been to the other OM store, he didnt bother calling an checking PM. Then a day later I went to the 2nd store, that had a drive wating for me still, and walked in and two employees were talking in the middle isle, and he aske if he could help, and I said yes, "are you the mgr?", and he said yes, and I said, yes I would like to use this coupon on this drive, and he said, is it internet, and a few seconds later took me up to the counter, and picked up the drive I was wating for, and said to cashier, give him this drive, and take the coupon. Now I have 3 drives, and will probably return the one with the date premature, and box a little scuffed. I will probably go in and try to exchange it, and if they dont have it, just get my money back. But if I end up with 3, I do believe that would be overkill.

It was a little work, But 173.xx out the door, less $80 gives a $93 out the door price. I mean if I bought the 40 meg at Costco for 119 the tax would bring it up to $130. Thanks Anandtech. I guess the lesson is that every store has rules, and can do what ever they want. I wouldnt get mad at any store for following them. BUt I do appreciate the ones that pricematch as their policy states on the wall.

Thanks, Anandtech

Had no problems at the Syracuse Office max. The manager didn't even blink when I asked to use the $40 off $200 staples coupon. $79.99 plus tax, not bad at all! First deal I ever got in on, thanks!
