I've been trying to figure this out, because I've got a few dozen gigs of movies on my computer i'd like to be able to play... electronicswatch.com is saying the sd1600 is a vcd player too, in fact they list that in the product description...on the other hand, toshiba specifically (here) says it does not support vcd's... odd.

Not sure if this will be helpful:

I have a Toshiba Sd-3109 and it plays vcds that are purchased from Asia but it does not read cdr's that I burn myself. I have tried the Kengsinton Hypermedia 8x from Outpost, Hi-Val 2x cdr's, and Fujifilm 8x cdr's. I know that this is not the same player, but hey, they are both Toshiba!

I've also read from other post a couple weeks ago that Prime Peripheral brand cdr's work with Toshiba players. Haven't try it but if you find out, let me know.

Lucks,
Mark.

I use Sony media on a Sony burner. You really need a good burner and you should use 8X rated media or higher (I used 12x). Burn at 1X if you're having problems, that may work.

I got the VCD to work. I used Sony 12X media on my Spresa burner. I burned at 4X, but you may want to try 1X if you're having problems. I noticed that blue media doesn't work as well as silver or gold.

I was able to get PNY 8x cdr to work on my 1600 but have yet to try a vcd. I have an HP 9110i burner and I use Nero. For anyone out there who was able to get a vcd to work, where did you buy the vcd from , or if you made it yourself, what did you use and what software/hardware/settings??

I have the sd-1600. I Finally got a cd-r to work. I had no luck with PNY, kodak, or imation.
However, today I tried a Memorex (green bottom) on my zipcd 12/10/32 at 12x and it worked great. So, try memorex. It might work

I've never even heard of that player...I'd rather stick with a known brand name, that's got a good reputation
