This seems like a pretty good deal, although the 13.3" screen bothers me a little. Toshiba laptops have been going for really decent prices lately, and I am not sure, but there might be a MIR somewhere...

not bad. but the $409 for Office XP isn't my thang. does anyone know of issues with installing Office 2000 on XP? it says 13.3" diagonal, meaning what, 12" viewable or something?

Cold:
Compusa had the 1805 with exact same specs for $899 last week
Flyer with it for $999

Im sure you can find a much better deal, next sale if you can wait.

Circuit City had a similar Toshiba laptop with 128 ram and smaller hard disk for $799 this last weekend.

but the $409 for Office XP isn't my thang. = sarcasm

I'm looking for a notebook for the gf too, so she lays off my desktop so I can play CS!
EDIT: What does Active Matrix mean?
It does look like a decent notebook for the price, but waiting for a slighty better deal is correct IMHO.

Active Matrix as opposed to passive matrix. Passive matrix is a thing of the past. Laptops nowadays all come with active matrix. Passive were the old kind where you would tilt the screen and you couldn't see a damn thing! Very old school.

They had the same thing on Amazon.
Except they will give you another 256 RAM free, see "Special Offer:" :linky

So that would be with 512MB, 1199 - 50MIR + free shipping = 1149

**For some reason they say the extra 256MB is free and they charge $69.99 for it, after entering prom code at checkout they take off $57.99!!!
What gives?

Yes, its compatible with the 1800-S204.
FYI - This memory offer ends on Friday, November 30th.
Any idea why we only get $57.99 of the $69.99 back?!

Just a quick note:

The 1800-S204 has Windows XP Professional,
The 1805-S204 has Windows XP Home.

LCD screens: diagonal == viewable
