WARM Seagate 300Gb UATA100 8MB Buffer - $129AR @ Outpost

Sort of off topic, I just checked that the status of the rebate I sent in for a seagate 160GB drive is "INVALID" I sent in the UPC sticker which was on the box. I didn't see any other UPC. I didn't keep copies, so I'm pretty much screwed now. Anyone have any hints for me to get the rebate still?

just received my $60 rebate for the 200g seagate outpost September deal. Took me about 3-4 calls (they do not respond to email). I think their strategy is don't send it, don't send it, and hope they eventually forget about it.

same reason why AGP cards are cheaper than PCIe now.
before, AGP cards were more expensive because they were in demand (ex 6600gt)

PCIe is becoming the norm, likewise for SATA, hotter deals are mostly for the dying technology

ALWAYS keep copies!!!

This drive is really quiet. That plus the 5 year warranty sold me on it. Ordered yesterday, got it today.

Call them. A lot of other people did get that same message and they know it's an issue with their system. Just tell them the deal but don't tell them you didn't keep copies (I bet you're kicking yourself in the arse huh? 🙂 ) It will take about a month after they validate your rebate again for you to receive your check, well it did for me.

I personally may go with another Seagate with a rebate but i would have to think long and hard about it. It was a very long agonizing wait for my rebate (almost four months).

I have never bought a hard drive that wasn't from Fry's/Outpost and I hve recieved all of the rebates. Never had any trouble at all.

i've gotten all my seagate rebates back usually within 3 months. which amazes me because i've mailed in 6 or so in the past year.

$50.00 for a 160 Gig HDD with 5 year warranty is warm? I guess it's warm if you are the type of person who trys using coupons and trys doing Price matches all over town with rebates in hope of saving a few $10 or $15 over this deal. Not worth it to me but this is definately a Hot Deal. My drive is working great in my external case and I sent my rebate in a few days ago.

warm, once the "final" price drops below $100 I might have to bite.

I think Seagate changed rebate processing companies. One rebate from last September had an "invalid serial number" until I phoned them. Ended up receiving it January, after two phone calls. Second rebate was from around Christmas time, received it February with no hassles. IIRC the checks I received looked different from each other.

The September drive was a 200GB from Fry's. Xmas was 400GB from CompUSA. Both were retail box, both manufacturer's rebate.

Seems Seagate got into habit of denying rebates. My $30 rebate for 400Gb Seagate from CompUSA was denied because of invalid serial number (which is BS, I checked my copies and I filled everything correctly), emailed them, but no response, gonna have to call next week. My dad also has had two denied rebates, both for some lame reason like no receipt, which is also BS. I hate to say this, but somebody should sue those rebate processing companies, they deny perfectly legitimate rebates for no reason.

Usually just telling them you have copies is enough to call their bluff.

I called their bluff and they magically "verified" my serial number over the phone. I keep photocopies of all rebates I mail in. The "proof" is my copy of the UPC that I mailed. If you go to Seagate's web site you can punch in the serial number and find out warranty status. 😀

retail box UPC with serial number
post card stating invalid serial number
details telling me to re-submit stuff by 10/20/04, and I received post card after that date

I try to avoid being taken in by a rebate deal, but when I succumb I always CYA. So far (knock on wood) only been jacked by Prime Peripherals for 100 CDR media from Staples on some anniversary sale a few years back for $20. I have had to "call their bluff" before, and I've had to wait 5+ months before, but so far so good. I like the Staples "Easy Rebates." I've gotten my rebate in 4 weeks flat, fastest by far.

I had a seagate/outpost rebate rejected due to the "wrong" serial number... but without any calls, letters, or emails on my part the rebate magically appeared, about 2-3 months after the initial rejection. The other seagate rebate my "friend" sent in went through the first time.

So seagate did screw up on the serial numbers they gave the rebate processing company, but they did eventually make good on their promise.

OT: Seagate's reliability, warranty, and low noise have won me over. Do you remember the $99 250GB maxtor drives from last Black Thursday? I bought two: one has failed and was RMA'd, the other is beginning to throw errors in my log, hope it dies before the 1 year warranty runs out. Bought 4 seagate SATA drives around the same time, they are still churning away in a RAID configuration. I know it's not scientific, but since all the brands are nearly the same price I'm buying seagate.
