Thanks for the help, I tried it that way yesterday and it works well, but the cables aren't that flexible after doing it that way. I'm trying to find someone who says they cut the wires and made a rounded cable, I've tried it and it's nearly impossible to do it. :)

BTW, the fear of crosstalk is a non-issue. The reason there are twice as many wires is that each set of 4 (I believe) has its own ground. The only place that this actually makes a difference is at the end of the connector where everything has to be in order.

Plycon has the rounded ata cables back in stock for 9.99 and 16.99.

I bought several of each and am very happy with them.
