Just found this today, but I have not ordered it yet.
The processor is here at staples.
I called and got the manufacturer number BX80526F700256E. It's retail and fcpga.

Pricematch it here at ecost
where it is 168.47.

Then just use the 30 off 150 or 100 to get it to around 138.47(maybe plus shipping depending on your customer rep)

I was going to do it with some credit I have there, but they said that they don't take my store credit online. Thought I would share it anyway.

Seems like a good deal.

Too bad the Duron 700 retail box goes for $70 at buy.com.....;)

Agree, That price you can get 900MHZ Tbird, which is 200MHZ faster, plus TBird is faster than PIII.

Keep in mind the overclock potential of this chip. I haven't kept tabs lately, but 4-5 months ago I put together 4 systems using 700E's. Three of them did (and still do) 933Mhz and the one I kept for myself does 966Mhz, all with retail HSF.

for those of us who couldn't spend 180 bucks on an Athlon board nine months ago, this is good for us.

It's a good choice if your mobo supports this, instead of buying a new mobo/cpu/cool combo.

Anyone know who's the cheapest for a PIII-800 Slot1 (have a p2b-f)... Don't want to go to the step of getting a new mobo/cpu/cool combo! Current pricewatch cost is around $190 oem... Is it worth going to 800mhz or just get a cheap 600mhz for 60 bucks less...

Definitely get a P3. I replaced my Celeron 667 that wouldn't overclock with a P3 700 @ 933 and my 3d Mark 2000 score almost doubled. It went from 3700 to 6800. This is due to the 266 Mhz increase in clock speed, the 133Mhz FSB instead of 66Mhz, and the 8-way set associative cache of the P3 compared to the 4-way of the Celeron.

Because the Celeron is such a POS, it makes the Duron look that much better. However, I have worked in tech support for 3 years of my college life and Intel motherboard chipsets are still the undisputed king of compatibility. If you buy a non-Intel chipset, you can expect some compatibility problems if it is a new chipset. Most of the problems get fixed after time though.

i tried going in on the deal....but they were out of stock.
does the pricematch have to be with ecost.com? googlegear.com has the cpu for 160, which would result in a final cost of 130. not too shabby at all. the woman said to call back in a couple of days and they should have them in stock.

Pricematch it with computersurway.com

P3-700 (100/256) is listed on their home page for $147.99, retail box.

Pricematch to Staples, knock $30 off, get free shipping, and you're looking at $118 for a chip that can do 933mhz.

Cheers,
-Dave

Shinyeggs, you should be able to use this chip. You just need to get a Slocket. That's the converter board for installing a FCPGA(or PPGA) form factor chip in a Slotted motherboard. Of course you still wouldn't be able to use one of the P3's that have the 133MHz bus speed. Also, you might need to update your bios to recognize the faster chips.

If your BH6 is version 1.01, 1.02 or 1.03 I think you are limited to a PIII 600 (or up to 700 mhz on the Celeron II). I know that version 1.1 of the BH6 can handle all of the processors up to 933. Check the Abit website for Bios updates.

shineyeggs I ran a 700E on a BH6 rev. 1.01 at 124 fsb useing SS bios. What a shame no 1/4 pci divder so I couldn't get to 133 fsb. Got a Asus CUSL2-C to be able to reach the full potenial of this chip, but to breath new lfe into the BH6 this for me was a winner.
