This is the new Nikon 2.1 MP camera that is similar in size to the Canon ELPH but with 3x zoom - it comes with a lithium battery and charger as well. It will be out sometime in the next month. Given the stellar reviews of its brother, the Coolpix 880, it sounds promising to say the least.

It retails for $449, but you can pre-order it from NECX Direct for $394.95, and there is a $30 coupon floating around the online deals sites. Buy a small item to get over $399 and shipping is free. I got the 775 plus 50 80 min Imation CD-Rs for $387 shipped.

I want to get this camera as well, but I'm waiting to read some reviews on it first. Does anyone have any review info on this camera yet?? Any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have not seen any reviews yet. I am buying blind at this point, and if DPReview or Steve's Digicams crucifies the camera in their review I will cancel the order. I feel pretty safe with my choice, though; pretty well every review I have ever seen of a Nikon digicam raved about the great image quality (DPReview calls the image quality of the old, fixed-focus CP 700 "stunning", and that was the cheapest digicam Nikon ever made), and the camera seems to be feature-complete for my intended uses. It also seems to offer the best combo of features and quality for my desired price point (read: pretty cheap). It seems close to the Canon S300 in most respects (2.1 MP, 3x zoom), other than a few odds and ends offered by the Canon (like sound to accompany movies) that I do not care about. It is hundreds cheaper, lighter, and likely has better image quality as well.

I would not be surprised if this camera (like the 995) is a bit scarce when it hits the market. I do not need a camera this instant but I do need one before I move at the end of July, so I figure there is probably no harm in ordering now to improve my odds of getting one as soon as they are available, and making alternate plans if necessary. I already ordered my 128 MB Compact Flash from Amazon to go with it!

Don_Vito, Thanks for the info. I also purchased the Viking 128 mb CompactFlash card from Amazon as well as the CompactFlash Card reader. Now all I need is a camera to go with them. I've been doing research for over a month now about various digital cameras, reading a multitude of reviews. When I saw the introduction of the new Nikon Coolpix 775, I thought I finally found what I wanted. I hope it does get great reviews. I was hoping to get it for a lower price though. Maybe around low $300. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

We shall see . . . FYI, the most tempting deal I had seen until now was the Canon S10 package at Amazon (camera, case and 32 MB CF for $349, minus a widely-available $30 coupon, with free shipping). Still a great deal, and I counseled my dad to buy it. The Canon pretty well obligates you to buy a $100 charger and battery, though, and frankly I figured the 32 MB card would not be that useful once I had a 128-megger, not to mention that the case they provide looks pretty wimpy. And it only has 2x zoom. Try as I might, I just can't seem to get a good, useable package for less than $350! I deeply envy the folks who bought Canon S10s or S100s for $199 on closeout at Office Depot.

I have no idea what will happen on pricing, so I bought with my AmEx Blue, just in case. I doubt a brand-new design will be deeply discounted anytime soon, but who knows?

That's a good price for this Coolpix. It's a brand new model too. Thanks, Don_Vito! :)

This is interesting:

Ideal for the mobile picture-taker who loves to share, the CoolPix 775 is backed by Sony's one-year limited warranty.

So Sony is providing warranty now for a Nikon camera?! :p
