Warm? Philips Reconditioned Electronics Up to 50% off retail

BEWARE! (?)

I am not sure how to check this, but I think it's weird that only the descriptions point to "http://www.consumer.philips.com/" whereas the adress you give (and all "add to cart" links) point to "216.24.232.109" ... Which is unreachable by "traceroute", and I don't know how to check the owner, etc. but it seems like a scam...

somebody knowing good urls for online tools to check ownership informations of an ip adress, please tell us more about this 🙂

I smell a scam. I was poking around and just wanted to see how the checkout looked like, and guess what, no security when you enter your credit card information. I would NOT order from this place.

According to Arin Whois the IP is not Phillips... Here are results:

Doesn't even look like a site that Philips would maintain... the code is too messy. Take a look at the source...

Just checked out the html code found something interesting in it......

I don't think this site has anything to do with Phillips for sure now. Created by a guy with a Geocities email address?

Also.............

//configure the two variables below to match yoursite's own info
var bookmarkurl="http://216.24.232.109/reconditionedproducts.asp"
var bookmarktitle="Smart Buys for Savvy People! Philips Electronics products renewed to factory specifications"

}
</script>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JAVASCRIPT TYPE="TEXT/JAVASCRIPT">
<!-- Hide script from old browsers

myPix = new Array("i/new_banner_2_225x250a.gif", "i/new_banner_2_225x250b.gif", "i/new_banner_2_225x250c.gif")
imgCt = myPix.length

function choosePic() {
if (document.images) {
randomNum = Math.floor((Math.random() * imgCt))
document.myPicture.src = myPix[randomNum]
}
}

// End hiding script from old browsers -->

Err... the geocities.com address is only for the script used in the page. As far as the other Javascript you listed, that is just a script that hides images from older browsers. Lots of sites use them.

But with that said, that is why I said this isn't a Philips site. Philips has the resources to write their own code/scripts and wouldn't need to borrow from others.

Thanks! You just reminded me that I was planning on running a scam in the next couple of years so I better go ahead and make up some bogus user names now.

You guys are a paranoid bunch. Too bad they didn't have AT forums back in Salem, might have saved a few lives.

Just so you guys know it is a legit site. I forwarded the web site and IP to Philips and they responded as follows:

Thank you for your e-mail.

It appears to be a legal site for reconditioned Philips products.

If there is anything else we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact us at our website which is www.philipsusa.com

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Philips USA, Customer Support

Hi ddylis
when did you email to Phillips?
your first post was 6:30 pm friday. Phillips guys must be working ovetimee.
Would not touch the site

I Emailed them immediately after I posted. If you would like to do the same, click on the link at the bottom of the page for Philips USA. I then Emailied the webmaster for philips (us.ce.webmaster@philips.com ). After I did that I received an immediate response as shown below followed up with the response below that within an hour and a half. If you don't believe me try it... The email is going to the webmaster of Philips and NOT the site in question.......

Here is the first response from them:
Dear Sir / Madam,

We have received your e-mail and will answer your question within two business days.

With kindest regards,
Philips Customer Care Centres

One thing to note here:

Companies very rarely handle thier own refurbished products. They bulk them out to other companies. Have you seen alot of homepages with "factory seconds" on them? Most companies dont sell retail direct. With that said, refurbished is exactly what you get, and who you get it from. The only warranty you get is DOA.

If the Philips reconditioned is so appealing, but this retailer scares you, contact Philips yourself.

I swear I have never ever seen such a paranoid group of people! So what if I only posted 4 times? Does that make me a criminal?!?! This is why I don't post anything...because paranoid people tick me off. If you don't like what's on the the site then keep it to yourself. I just posted the site to be a nice guy, but apparently its not worth being nice anymore.

Well. Hot Deals are only hot when people don't get screwed by them. Sorry you posted a hot deal but don't ask people to let other people get screwed over.

If Phillips came back and said "It appears to be a legal site for reconditioned Philips products." but the copyright shows that it is a phillips run site..... it would seem that the phillips rep would say "congratulations on finding OUR site for refurbs"... not that it "appears" legit.

I'm calling this one questionable. Call me a seller of Crazy or something, but this doesn't smell right.

MODS- please check this out too if you need and then lock it up for us! Thanks!

doesn't seem right to me to have different sites registered to different contacts and addresses... All the links point to comsumer.phillips.com

I hate to put a crimp on the conspiracy theorists, but go to Philips Consumer Electronics, then look at the bottom of the page for the banner that says, on it's left half, "Smart Buys For Savvy People". The banner links to (cue in the drums)... http://pusa-store.com - aka the page that original poster linked. I doubt that Philips would link from their site to a scammer that purports to sell Philips products. It looks like they've merely outsourced the refurb handling to an outside vendor.

good find!

//krunk (^_^x)

Thank you snipersheep for putting these people in thier place.

How many of you 'senior members' posted crap along the lines of : its a scam, stay away!

Give me some examples where refurbished is handled in house and completely certified by the manufacturer. Refurbed crap is ALWAYS subbed out. This way the manufacturer doesnt have to hastle with returns.

This is a hot deal becuase the prices are alot lower than retail and come with a warranty (never seen that with refurbed before). And it doesnt require alot of crappy YMMV stuff and phonecalls arguing to CSR trying to screw the seller out of thier money through PM coupons and other crap (which Ive found extremely annoying that these YMMV get all of the attention on this forum whilst it obviously states on BB CC OD OM Staples sites that these 'stacking PM coupons and other things are not allowed).

Its sad to see a legitimate post take so much crap from you people.

ONKYO!

i'm interested in what all the people that have been calling it a scam have to say to that (the link from philips own site)
